Parental bereavement leave is extended to 15 days

The deputies definitively adopted, Tuesday, May 26, unanimously and with applause, the bill which aimed to increase the leave for the death of a child. Leave for the death of a minor or dependent child is therefore increased to 15 days, against 5 days previously. This text had been the subject of a lively controversy at the start of the year, some LREM deputies having wished to cut from the proposal the extension of the leave, according to the Minister of Labor. Emmanuel Macron then asked the government to “show humanity”.

“An unparalleled tragedy”

In a much more serene climate this time, Muriel Pénicaud, Minister of Labor, declared that the death of a child is “An unparalleled tragedy”, and that it is necessary to accompany ” the best possible “ families, even if “It will never be the size of the drama that is being experienced”. At the end of the vote, Guy Bricout, deputy UDI-Agir, at the origin of the bill, said: ” I felt today on the benches a deep humanityI think we have all let our hearts speak and that is exceptional. “
