Paracetamol

  • Trade names: Doliprane®, Dafalgan®, Efferalgan®…
  • Cons-indications : Do not take this medication:

if you have severe liver disease;

if you are allergic to paracetamol

  • Pregnancy : paracetamol can be used throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding at the recommended doses
  • Consult your doctor :

before taking paracetamol: if you suffer from liver disease, kidney disease, alcohol abuse, malnutrition or dehydration.

if the pain gets worse, persists for more than 5 days or if the fever lasts for more than 3 days while you are taking paracetamol

  • Action time : between 30 min and 1 hour depending on the form. The effervescent or sucking tablets work faster than the capsules.  
  • Dosage : from 500 mg to 1g
  • Interval between two shots : at least 4h in adults, 6h in children 
  • Maximum dose: it is usually not necessary to exceed 3 g/ d. In case of more severe pain, the dose may be increased to 4 g/ d (except in the specific cases listed above for which a medical consultation is necessary). a Overdose en paracetamol can irreversibly damage the liver.
