Types, causes and symptoms of cardiomyopathy

1. Dilatation – the reasons include a genetic factor and impaired regulation of immunity. In this type of cardiomyopathy, the heart chambers are dilated and the contractile function of the myocardium is impaired.

The main signs of dilated cardiomyopathy:

  • swollen legs;
  • pale skin;
  • high blood pressure;
  • shortness of breath occurs even with little physical exertion;
  • do not have hands;
  • growing heart failure;
  • the tips of the toes and hands turn blue.

2. Hypertrophic. It can be congenital and acquired. The most likely cause of the occurrence is genes. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is characterized by a thickening of the wall of the left ventricle of the heart. In this case, the cavity of the ventricle itself does not increase.

Symptoms:

  • poor circulation;
  • high blood pressure;
  • the shape of the left ventricle is changed;
  • impaired function of contraction of the left ventricle;
  • heart failure.

Symptoms do not begin to make themselves felt from the very onset of the disease, which aggravates the situation. A person can live for several years (or even tens) and not know about the disease. For this, it is necessary to conduct surveys from time to time.

3. Restrictive form is rare. It can occur independently and with concomitant heart diseases, which should be excluded when making a diagnosis. After all, they are a consequence of restrictive myocarditis.

Reasons: mainly genetic predisposition. In children, the disease can form due to impaired glycogen metabolism.

Symptoms:

  • decreased relaxation of the walls of the heart muscle;
  • enlarged atria;
  • signs of heart failure;
  • dyspnea;
  • swelling of the limbs.

The main causes of cardiomyopathy:

  1. 1 Genetics (it is still considered the most likely and common cause of cardiomyopathy);
  2. 2 The patient had previously suffered from myocarditis;
  3. 3 Damage to heart cells by various toxins, allergens;
  4. 4 Immune regulation is impaired;
  5. 5 Disorders in endocrine processes;
  6. 6 Viruses and infections (for example, severe flu, herpes simplex can provoke illness. Coxsackie virus should also be included here).

Healthy foods for cardiomyopathy

People with heart disease should definitely follow a diet. Meals should be fractional and in equal portions. The number of meals is 5.

With cardiomyopathy, it is necessary to eat foods that improve blood circulation, strengthen the blood vessels of the heart and normalize metabolism. To do this, you need to increase the intake of magnesium and potassium in your diet.

It is necessary to add foods containing fatty acids (omega-3) to the diet. Omega-3 helps the body to lower cholesterol levels, prevent blood clots and lower blood pressure (this is especially important in this disease, because almost all patients have high blood pressure).

It is worth eating:

  • flour products: crackers, toasts, diet bread (salt-free);
  • vegetarian soups (vegetable, cooked in vegetable oil and milk soups);
  • seafood and low-fat fish (boiled or steamed);
  • lactic acid products with low fat content (milk, yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, sour cream, sometimes you can eat not salted butter);
  • chicken eggs (soft-boiled) or omelette (no more than 1 egg per day);
  • cereals and pasta (made from durum flour);
  • vegetables (in baked, boiled form), while with raw vegetables you should be careful (you can’t have problems with digestion and so that there is bloating – this hinders the work of the heart);
  • dried fruits (especially dried apricots);
  • fruits and berries;
  • honey and propolis;
  • fruit and vegetable juices (preferably freshly squeezed);
  • weakly brewed tea;
  • vegetable oils.
