Thanks to this service, it will be possible to feel the smells transmitted using a special device, which, after receiving a special signal to the phone, will spread the aroma throughout the room.
The fragrance transport device that comes with mobile phones looks like a small steel shaker. It already contains a stock of the necessary components that form various odors. During a conversation, users will be able to send each other special codes, which will be transmitted by the device through the infrared port to a portable “generator” that creates a fragrance.
The new service, according to company representatives, will work for two models of its phones.
“Mobile scent communication” is based on the “scent communication” technology – a service that offers the transmission of smells through home computers. A similar project has been successfully operating in Japan since 2005. Smell data are uploaded to computers via the Internet, and cartridges with basic aromas are placed in a special device, which, when mixed, form a wide range of odors.
Another device from NTT Communications operates on a similar system. Since April 2006, films in theaters in Japan have been showing films on special “scented” premium chairs, which have built-in devices to generate odors during certain scenes of the film. The first film to be shown in this way was the 2005 film New World, starring Colin Farrell.
