Neck pain, myositis. How to treat?

Causes and symptoms of myositis

Myositis is also classified according to the area of damage, for example, muscles of the cervical or lumbar region or muscles of the chest. If the pathological process covers several muscle groups, we can talk about polymyositis. Among the main reasons for the development of myositis are infectious diseases, for example, SARS or influenza, some parasitic infections, in particular, echinococcosis, as well as toxic effects in metabolic disorders, with gout or diabetes mellitus. Sometimes myositis is an occupational disease that affects musicians (especially violinists and pianists), typists, operators, chauffeurs and all those whose activities are associated with constant tension of any muscle group. People who are forced to be in uncomfortable positions for a long period of time are also at risk of getting myositis.

Fortunately, myositis of the cervical spine, according to doctors, refers to diseases that respond well to treatment if the necessary measures are taken in time.

Cervical myositis quite often occurs as a result of traumatic injury or hypothermia – when the neck is blown out. Quite often, local myositis, including cervical, occur due to muscle overstrain as a result of excessive physical exertion, as well as injuries.

How to treat myositis of the neck: ointments or tablets?

It is necessary to treat acute myositis under medical supervision to avoid any complications. Therapy is most often a complex of pathogenetic (eliminating the cause) and symptomatic (reducing pain and restoring freedom of movement) effects. As a rule, patients suffering from acute myositis are prescribed pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications, for example, diclofenac or nurofen, ketonal is often used in this case. The drugs are prescribed both oral and parenteral.

Very effective in the treatment of local myositis, which includes cervical, the use of local warming compresses with various ointments, such as, for example, apizartron, finalgon and others. Drugs of this action can improve the nutrition of the affected muscles, and due to the local irritating effect, they reduce muscle tension, which can significantly reduce pain. For the treatment of cervical myositis in children, a warming ointment from the “Doctor Mom” series is very suitable.

Inflammation of the muscles of the cervical spine is often characterized by an abrupt onset: patients experience very severe pain, it becomes almost impossible to turn their head.

If you do not start treatment immediately after the first symptoms appear, cervical myositis can be overcome quite quickly and easily. Otherwise, the attack may take a protracted nature.

Suffering from acute myositis of the neck, it is necessary to be as completely as possible at rest, without straining the diseased muscles. The sore area must be lubricated with a warming ointment, after taking an anti-inflammatory drug. In this case, novocaine blockade has a good effect – this procedure should be carried out exclusively in a medical institution! After injecting the most painful areas with novocaine using corticosteroids, many patients experience relief.

For those who are contraindicated in chemicals, post-isometric relaxation (PIR) can be recommended. This procedure is considered one of the most effective among the methods of treating myositis of the cervical spine, implying stretching of muscles and ligaments, which takes place with the active interaction of the patient and the doctor.
