Mycena needle-shaped (Mycena acicula) photo and description

head 0.5-1 cm in diameter, hemispherical, radially striated, smooth, with uneven margin. The color is orange-red, orange, the center is more saturated than the edges. There is no private cover.

Pulp orange-red in the cap, yellow in the stem, extremely thin, fragile, no smell.

Records sparse, whitish, yellowish, pinkish, adnate. There are shortened plates that do not reach the stem, on average, half of the total.

Leg 1-7 cm high, 0.5-1 mm in diameter, cylindrical, sinuous, pubescent below, fragile, yellow, from orange-yellow to lemon-yellow.

Inhabits from late spring to early autumn in forests of all kinds, grows in leaf or coniferous litter, singly or in small groups.

  • (Atheniella aurantiidisca) is larger, has a more cone-shaped cap, and otherwise differs only in microscopic features. Not found in Europe.
  • (Atheniella adonis) has larger sizes and other shades – if Mycena needle-shaped has yellowish and orange shades in priority, then Ateniella Adonis has pink ones, both in the stem and in the plates.

This mycena is considered an inedible mushroom.
