Itching is a reaction of the skin, in the form of irritation, to substances that are produced by the body or to external allergens of the nerve endings of the skin.

Prerequisites and causes of the development of itchy skin

Age-related changes in the body, the consequences of past diseases (for example, diabetes mellitus, infectious diseases), thin skin, malfunction of the sebaceous glands and, as a result, profuse sweating, accumulation of toxins in the body, diseases of internal organs (thyroid, liver, kidneys, lymphatic system ), taking certain types of medications, allergic reactions, the presence of parasites (worms) in the body, mechanical, thermal, chemical or electrical irritants, dry skin, hormonal disorders, nerve and mental disorders, insect bites, etc.

Types of disease

Depending on the localization, itchy skin can manifest itself: in the hair, in the genitals or in the anus, cover a significant part of the skin (generalized itching) or certain parts of the body (for example, feet, interdigital spaces and lower legs or in the nose).

Itchy scalp can be the result of diseases such as: lice, seborrhea, lichen, dry scalp.

Itchy skin of the legs indicates a lesion of the feet with a fungus or the presence of vascular diseases of the legs.

Itching during pregnancy is the result of stretching the skin of the abdomen with an increase in the size of the uterus, cholelithiasis or thrush.

Useful foods for itching

A special diet should be followed depending on the cause of itching. For example, if itchy skin is caused by kidney failure, you should eat a low protein diet. If itchy skin is an allergic reaction to certain foods, then they must be excluded from the diet. And in this case, you should form a diet of hypoallergenic foods. These include:

  • porridge (buckwheat, oatmeal, rice);

Traditional medicine for itchy skin

  • herbal wraps or baths from Veronica, Lamb, lemon balm, nettle, burdock root, periwinkle, juniper berries, elecampane, oregano, buds and pine needles;
  • birch tar ointment;
  • lemon juice or boric acid solution can be added to water for personal hygiene;
  • 10% infusion of birch buds take 20 drops three times a day;
  • rub the juice of fresh onion into the skin in “itchy” places;
  • ointment from the buds of poplar (black): three glasses of dry pounded for one liter of olive or corn oil, bring to a boil, use for three weeks.

Dangerous and harmful foods for itching

It is necessary to limit in the diet or completely exclude from it foods that additionally provoke skin irritation and increase the unpleasant sensations of itching or may cause allergic reactions.
