“There is no life in parallel worlds”

Inna Khamitova, family psychotherapist

In the new novel by the Danish writer Iselin K. Hermann “Domino” – three storylines, three heroes. But suddenly it turns out that we are talking about one person who lives simultaneously with three women. The author claims that men tend to lead a parallel existence historically.

Psychologies: Does such a situation occur in reality?

Inna Khamitova: Often. But women also lead a double or triple life – remember, for example, the film “Lover” by Valery Todorovsky. By creating an alternative reality on the side, both men and women hope to meet there what they lack in the first – sexual harmony, understanding, comfort, vivid emotions. It seems to be more convenient, easier than trying to build a life with one partner.

But is it possible to maintain one’s integrity by leading a double life?

THEIR.: No, It is Immpossible. Existing in parallel worlds, a person cannot be close to the end with any of the partners. He is nowhere by himself. But his double life is not a cause, but a consequence of the splitting of his personality. A consequence of deep inner dissatisfaction and a feeling of emptiness. Unable or unwilling to deal with himself, to resolve his internal conflicts, a person projects his spiritual discomfort onto others and hopes that a new relationship will save him from all problems. Getting started with your life is hard. But only deep inner work, and not the “doubling” of reality, can open the door to real life for us.
