Interesting facts about the solarium. How to sunbathe in a solarium

Coco Chanel brought tanning into fashion

At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, in sunny weather, ladies walked with umbrellas so as not to touch the aristocratic pallor of the skin with an accidental tan. However, this behavior of women was changed quite by accident.

In 1923, the well-known and respected by many Coco Chanel, after a trip to Cannes, returned home too tanned. She also previously loved sunbathing, but this time the tan was especially noticeable. Surrounded by Coco, women thought that this was a new trend from the incomparable Mademoiselle, and began to strive for a bronze tan.

Solarium and legislation

In almost all Western countries, except for Russia, there have long been laws that regulate visits to the tanning salon and the requirements for them. In Russia, in 2010, sanitary standards for tanning salons were included in the document SanPiN 2.1.2.2631-10. By the way, not all owners of tanning studios and beauty salons know about these norms, which leads to the lack of serious quality control of the corresponding equipment and service. Take this into account and choose the studios that your acquaintances recommend to you based on personal experience.

Categorical contraindications

In the solarium, it is forbidden to sunbathe for pregnant and lactating women, women during menstruation, people with a diagnosis of dermatitis and patients who are taking medications that increase the photosensitivity of the skin: antibiotics, tranquilizers, antidepressants. Also, doctors do not recommend visiting a solarium for children under 15 years old. You should not go to the solarium and those who have gynecological diseases, endocrine system disorders, malignant and benign tumors, those who suffer from diabetes mellitus.

Tanning products with tingle-effect

These products appeared in 1999 and instantly became popular among artificial tanning lovers. They work as follows: shortly after application, a tingling sensation, tingling sensation appears on the skin, and slight redness becomes visible. All this happens as a result of the expansion of capillaries in the upper layers of the skin and the enhancement of subcutaneous microcirculation under the action of such an agent, blood circulation and oxygen cell saturation are improved. As a result, the tan lays down faster.

Such products are suitable for tanned, swarthy people, for those whose skin is not very sensitive and who regularly visit the solarium.

Even tanning problems

The face tans more slowly, because By nature, the protective stratum corneum of the face is much thicker than on the rest of the body, thus providing protection from harmful radiation. The inner surfaces of the arms and legs also do not tan very intensely – there are fewer pigment-forming cells in these places. But freckles and age spots darken quickly enough.

To achieve a more even tan, specialists recommend procedures in a vertical solarium.

The myth of the turbo solarium

A common misconception: a turbo tanning bed is a powerful tanning bed that gives you a more intense tan. In fact, the prefix “turbo” means the following: such a solarium is equipped with a powerful cooling system, which allows the device to work for a long time without the risk of overheating.

Sunburn and cellulite

Tanned skin only temporarily masks the orange peel on the thighs, but in fact, ultraviolet light destroys the collagen layer in the skin, which leads to a loss of its firmness and elasticity, it is damaged and thinned. After the tan has faded, the appearance of cellulite will unfortunately become even more problematic.

Men in the solarium

Today it is not surprising to see a man in a tanning bed. Those who go in for sports are especially fond of artificial tanning, because the muscle relief is better visible on dark skin (note that at various fitness competitions, participants are always tanned).

Some doctors believe that visiting a solarium has a beneficial effect on male potency: firstly, a fat-soluble vitamin improves the quality of male semen; secondly, even artificial heat and light help to increase the level of endorphins in the body and stimulate sexual desire.

Tanorexia

This is the psychological dependence of a person on ultraviolet rays. Initially, teenage girls 13-16 years old from those countries where there is very little sun were exposed to it, but with the advent of tanning salons, the risk group increased: people prone to extremes, in pursuit of beauty standards, cannot say “stop” and go to solarium almost every day (you should think about tanorexia if you are drawn to go to the solarium more than 2 times a week) and increase the session time to 15-20 minutes, which absolutely cannot be done.

Solarium quality

Determining the quality of the equipment and service in a tanning studio is not easy, but quite possible. Here are some tips:

  • If you come to the solarium for the first time, the studio administrator should tell you about the types of solarium and the rules for using them, inform about the life of the lamps. The specialist is also obliged to determine your skin type in order to recommend the time of the session and advise the skin care products.
  • Ask to show the technical data sheet and the certificate of conformity issued for this particular solarium.
  • Ask a studio employee if it is possible to turn off the device yourself in case of an unforeseen need, and also make sure that there is a staff call button in the solarium.
  • Pay attention to staff performing disinfection after each visitor. It is advisable that the disinfection process takes place in front of your eyes: all surfaces should be treated with a special disinfectant solution.
  • When turning on the lamps of the tanning bed should not blink, as they do not require heating.
