A pom-pom blanket is a cozy addition to the interior. It can be made miniature for babies, medium for older children, or large for use as a sofa bedspread, for example. Even a person who does not know how to knit can create such a blanket.

We select yarn for a plaid from pompons

For newborns, choose the softest yarn – 100% acrylic. You can use woolen or semi-woolen threads if the person you are making the blanket for is not allergic to wool. The main thing is that the yarn is thornless.

For a pom-pom blanket, you need two colors of yarn

It is better to use yarn of two colors. This is necessary not only for beauty, but also for the convenience of work, below you will understand why. For a small blanket 100 × 150 cm, you will need 8 skeins of yarn. It will take 80 skeins to make a blanket for a newborn 80 × 5 cm. If you want to make a larger blanket – 85 × 85 cm, stock up on 6 skeins of yarn.

For work, build a wooden frame, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the future product. Keep in mind that after removing it from the frame, the blanket will shrink by about 5-10 cm, so make it a little larger if dimensions are important to you. Drive long nails around the perimeter of the frame at a distance of 3-5 cm from each other. Then proceed according to the scheme:

  1. The first thread color is the base. Braid all the nails on the frame with it so that both vertically and horizontally there are 20 threads everywhere. At the intersections, respectively, there will be 40 lines.
  2. The second color of the thread is future pompons. Weave them around the frame in the same way as with the base, but throw 30 threads in each row.
  3. Tie knots at each intersection. It is important to carefully fasten all the intersections of the threads, if you miss at least one, the plaid will not work.
  4. Cut the workpiece off the frame. To do this, cut the horizontal and vertical threads extending beyond the nails.
  5. The final stage of work: creating pompons. Cut the strands of the second color on four sides of the knots. If you used threads of the same color, you will have to constantly count 30 threads and cut them, otherwise you can simply cut, focusing on the color.
  6. Optionally, you can put a ribbon around the edge of the blanket for decoration.

When you’re done cutting the threads, you have a soft and fluffy blanket. Helpful hint: Before weaving knots, cover your fingers with adhesive plaster, otherwise you will get blisters.
