How to drink, serve and set fire to sambuca

Not so long ago, my friends invited me to a nightclub to remember my youth. I was going for a long time, I was looking for reasons to refuse. No, I love my friends and am always happy to meet you, but I’m already at the age when you feel immensely old in nightclubs.

But still went. And not in vain. There I discovered a new drink for myself – sambuca. This drink is very popular in clubs. After going to the club, I decided to learn the rules for drinking this type of alcohol, and this unusual “fiery” liquor became a great decoration for my home bar.

If you also don’t want to spend money on an expensive bar drink, but want to arrange an extravaganza at home, then sit back comfortably in an armchair, wrap yourself in a blanket, fix a heating pad and read how to drink, serve and set it on fire.

What is sambuca

A popular Italian liqueur, which can also be attributed to bitter (bitters).

The main component of sambuca is anise. It is his notes that prevail in the bouquet of an alcoholic drink. Also contains spicy herbs, elderberry. They insist on alcohol, then distilled. Distillation usually produces a clear color for bitters. But it can be red, and even almost black.

I want to note! Sambuca is easy enough to make yourself. However, I still prefer to drink high-quality factory alcohol.

What glasses to take for sambuca

You can drink sambuca in different ways:

  1. If it is set on fire, then the glass must be made of thick glass so that it does not crack. Bartenders call it Old Fashion. Feature – a very massive bottom and dense, straight walls.
  2. If a fire show is not planned, then a glass of cognac or whiskey can be used for sambuca.

Advice! If there is no Old Fashion, then you can lightly pour fire over an ordinary cognac glass from the inside with a lighter. Thanks to this, it will not burst when the sambuca is set on fire.

How to drink sambuca correctly

I always thought that the only way to drink sambuca is by setting it on fire. However, having carried away the traditions of this drink, I learned that there are a lot of ways.

I will describe the most interesting, in my opinion:

The Russian tradition is to drink without any spectacular incendiary shows. Pour 50 ml of drink into a shot glass, set it on fire, wait 6-7 seconds, then extinguish the blazing fire with one strong exhalation and drink.

Regardless of which option you choose, sambuca should be drunk quickly, in one gulp.

Important! Before you drink sambuca, you need to eat well. Drinking a hot drink on an empty stomach is strictly unacceptable!

Sambuca is often served as an aperitif. But even in this case, the stomach should not be completely empty. I also recommend drinking alcohol with a snack. For example, for a hearty dinner – meat and cheese cuts, seafood, olives, pickles. For a party – dark chocolate, marmalade, sweet desserts.

How to effectively set fire to sambuca

I’ll tell you step by step how to set fire to sambuca:

  1. Next to put 2 empty, clean, dry glasses.
  2. Pour 60 ml of sambuca into a glass with thick glass (preferably Old fashion).
  3. Make a hole in the center of an ordinary paper napkin, insert the tip of a cocktail straw into it, put it on a saucer.
  4. Set fire to the sambuca, wait 7 seconds. Pour the hot drink into the second glass, cover with the first one.
  5. When the fire goes out, carefully and slowly rearrange the top glass on the saucer without turning over, keeping the vapors of alcohol under the top glass.
  6. Drink sambuca from one glass, then inhale the vapors from under the second through a straw.

Such a small fiery performance looks very impressive. I advise you to pay attention to the burning sambuca if you are planning a party at home. After igniting, a blue flame appears for 10 seconds, which looks very bewitching.

Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health. Take care of yourself!

I was very interested in this drink, I try to delve into its history and traditions as much as possible. If you have interesting information, such as other options for how to drink or set fire to sambuca, share with me in the comments.
