How a Cycling Addict Lives

We are talking about Tom Seaborn, who traveled an incredible distance and even accidentally set a world record.

Scientists claim that daily cycling improves well-being, normalizes sleep and prolongs life. To maintain health, experts advise pedaling for at least 30 minutes a day. In America, there is a man who has exceeded all possible norms, because he spends almost all his time on a bicycle. However, his hobby is painful.

Tom Seaborn from Texas, 55 years old, is in great shape and cannot imagine his life without cycling. This is not just a hobby, but a real passion. According to the man, if for some time he cannot ride a bike, he begins to get nervous, and along with the worries, he instantly has symptoms of a cold.

Tom has been cycling for 25 years. For all the time, he traveled more than 1,5 million kilometers (3000 hours a year!). By the way, the average annual mileage of a car in Russia is only 17,5 km, so even avid motorists cannot boast of such a result.

“I’m so used to the fact that the saddle of a bicycle no longer hurts me,” he shared in an interview on TLC.

In 2009, Tom’s love of cycling was over the top. He decided to pedal the stationary bike for 7 days without a break. The man came to his goal, simultaneously setting a new world record – 182 hours on a stationary bike. The incredible achievement had a flip side of the coin: on the sixth day, the record holder began hallucinations, and once Tom’s hardy body crashed and he fell off the bike.

On a bicycle, Tom spends a whole working day: he spends at least 8 hours on his hobby, and even seven days a week. The man learned to combine his main passion with ordinary work. His place in the office looks strange, because the table and chair are replaced by an exercise bike.

“I am not ashamed that I spend so much time on my bike. The first thing I think about when I wake up is riding. Colleagues know where to find me: I am always on a stationary bike, right by the phone, my computer is attached to the bike. As soon as I get home from work, I ride a road bike. I come back about an hour later and sit on an exercise bike, ”says the athlete.

When Tom is on the bike, he does not feel discomfort, but as soon as he gets off the stationary bike, pain immediately pierces his hips and back. However, the man does not plan to go to the doctor.

“I haven’t been to a therapist since 2008. I hear stories about how doctors leave in a worse condition than they came, ”he is convinced.

10 years ago, doctors warned Tom that from such loads he could lose the ability to walk. The avid cyclist ignored the specialists. And while the family worries about Tom and asks him to stop, he stubbornly continues to pedal. According to the man, only death can separate him from the bicycle.
