Home remedies for acne scars

Acne attacks are, in themselves, already very painful to live, but how to remedy the damage caused by their passage? Indeed, acne, depending on its severity, can leave scars for life, which can be really embarrassing on a daily basis aesthetically. Here are our solutions.

How acne scars form

To overcome evil, we must first understand its origin. Acne mostly affects adolescents, although in some people it remains present into adulthood. In question: naturally oily skin prone to acne, a diet that is too rich, hormonal disorders, or poor daily hygiene of the face. To prevent acne, you have to remember to clean your skin on a daily basis, treat it with suitable products, reasonably limit fatty foods, and in severe cases, do not hesitate to consult a dermatologist.

Concretely, acne is formed when the skin has an excess of sebum: this substance which is used to protect the skin can sometimes be produced in too large a quantity by the sebaceous glands. It will then clog the pores of the skin, which will create an inflammation, and therefore a pimple (we also speak of comedo). Acne scars are formed when we pierce pimples and blackheads. By puncturing the skin, we create these scars ourselves. And it’s even worse if it’s not done with clean hands, and then disinfected!

Following recurrent acne attacks, the scars may be more or less numerous, and more or less deep depending on the type of acne. If you have mild acne, the scars are mostly superficial, and fade after a few months. If you have more pronounced acne, or even severe, the scars can be very deep, very numerous, and mark your skin for life.

Several types of acne scars

  • Red and residual scars: these are the most common scars, since they appear right after the pimple is removed. They are above all red marks and slight scars on the surface. It is necessary to disinfect them and treat them with a healing solution quickly to prevent them from becoming infected and persisting over time.
  • Pigmentary scars: they can appear after moderate to severe acne attacks. These are small brown or white spots depending on your skin tone, which testify to poor healing of the skin.
  • Atrophic or hypertrophic scars: it is about scars which draw hollows and reliefs in the skin, one speaks then “of pockmarked aspect”. They appear in severe acne and inflammatory acne. They are very difficult to eliminate.

Cream to reduce acne scars

There are many cream formulas to reduce acne scars. Some will help reduce red and residual scars as well as pigmentary scars. You can find it in drugstores, taking the time to seek advice from a pharmacist, ideally.

If your scars are important, and in particular in the case of atrophic or hypertrophic scars, the ideal will surely be to opt for a prescription acne scarring cream. You will then need to contact a dermatologist, who can offer you the product best suited to your needs. Indeed, the arsenal to fight against acne is quite varied: retinoids, azelaic acid, fruit acids, benzoyl peroxide can be solutions, but they are not suitable for all types of scars, nor for all skin types. Professional advice is essential before starting this type of treatment.

Acne peeling: erase your scars

Peeling is a treatment performed by a dermatologist in cases of significant acne scars, mainly in cases of raised scars. The practitioner applies a substance called glycolic acid, which is a fruit acid, to the face. The dosage is more or less concentrated according to your needs. The acid in question will burn the superficial layers of the skin, to find a healthy and smooth skin by eliminating the scars.

The peeling requires 3 to 10 sessions depending on the severity of your scars, and is completed by treatments (cleansers and / or cream) to be applied in the evening. Of course, the peel must be performed by a specialist and you must follow his advice to avoid any complications (hyperpigmentation if you expose yourself to the sun too soon after the sessions, scars if the acid has burned too deeply).
