History of Lancôme brands

Over time, many become legends. What can we say about the cosmetic brand with 84 years of experience, which has millions of loyal fans around the world. So, let’s look into the history of Lancôme.

To clarify, there were several roses in the history of the Lancôme brand. And one led to another, although they grew in different countries and at different times.

  1. The first – creamy, delicate – blossomed near Paris, in the town of Ville d’Evre. It was there that the founder of Lancôme, Armand Petitjean, planted a rose garden near his house and announced to the whole world that a woman is like a beautiful flower.

  2. The second rose gave the name to the young perfume house – wild, with small scarlet buds, it curled at the foot of the magnificent Lancosm castle in the Brenn forest. Petitjean loved to visit this castle and perceived it as the true embodiment of luxury. Therefore, he borrowed the name, removing the letter “c” and adding a diacritic mark above the “o”, which he considered “very French”.

  3. The third rose bloomed on a watercolor by the Belgian artist Redoubt and, combining the splendor of the first and the tenderness of the second, became the symbol of the brand, the very elegant golden flower that appeared on the first posters and bottles of Lancôme.

  4. The fourth – the main, most luxurious, pale fuchsia color – was bred in 1974 by the Delbard florist house especially for the Lancôme brand and, of course, named after her.

When removing the Trésor cap from Lancôme, any woman closes her eyes. This is because pure, concentrated sensuality is concentrated in the fragrance. When creating it, perfumer Sofia Groysman focused primarily on her own taste. And she added to Trésor components that she personally liked: a lot of rare essence of Otto rose, lilac, lily of the valley, iris and musk. It turned out that these notes are in tune not only with Sophia – in terms of sales, Trésor surpassed even Chanel No. 5 in an unheard of way.

Since its launch in 1936, Lancôme’s legendary Nutrix cream has been called the “grand dame of cosmetology”, the “balm of youth” and the “remedy of salvation”.
