His first compulsory medical examination

For this assessment of 5-6 years old, your presence will be “strongly desired”! Of course, as with any self-respecting medical examination, the doctor will weigh and measure your child, check if their vaccinations are up to date and ask them a few questions about their eating habits. Language disorders
Be careful, the doctor is asking questions of your child and not of you! Let him speak and don’t interrupt him by wanting to do too well because the words he uses, his fluency in the language and his ability to answer questions are also part of the exam! This visit is indeed often the opportunity to detect a language disorder (dyslexia for example) too light to put the chip in the ear of the teacher, but important enough to put your child in difficulty in a few months at CP , when he learns to read. So, even if he stammers, do not blow the answers to your child during the tests: it will be your turn to speak when the doctor asks you about all the details that will allow him to place your child in his family and social landscape. .
Sensory disturbances
Then follow the sensory tests which allow the doctor to check your child’s sight and hearing: it is not uncommon for him to detect a confirmed or milder deafness in a child with behavioral problems but whose hearing problem was hitherto gone unnoticed. This very simple test (by oto-acoustic emission) is perhaps not the first undergone by your child since some school doctors, in conjunction with the health services of large cities, intervene from the small kindergarten section. during mass screening actions.

Another two-three motor skills and balance exercises, tests to measure his overall development, a more or less focused glance at your child’s general condition to check that he is not a victim of abuse … and the visit is over! Throughout these tests, the doctor will complete your child’s medical file, which will remain for the sole use of the doctor and the school nurse. This file, which will follow your child from kindergarten to the end of middle school, will be sent under confidential cover to the new school in the event of a move, but you will not get it back until your child enters high school!
