Hirudotherapy (treatment with leeches). Video reviews

Leech therapy, or hirudotherapy, belongs to the ancient medical methods. Hirudotherapy is actively used today. After treatment with leeches, there are practically no negative consequences, while there are very few contraindications for hirudotherapy.

In hirudotherapy, only medicinal leeches are used, grown on special farms. Such a leech, unlike those found in natural reservoirs, is absolutely sterile. One leech is used only once, due to which, along with sterility, infection is excluded from the human body.

A leech never sticks to the skin of a person who has consumed even a small amount of alcohol.

The distinctive ability of leeches can be attributed to their ability to feel disease. If the leech is released onto the patient’s skin and let it choose a place on its own, it will stick to the skin in the area that is associated with the diseased organ.

Indications for treatment with leeches

Leeches can help with almost any disorder in our body.

Hirudotherapy is contraindicated for people with low blood clotting, pregnant women and patients with severe forms of anemia

The most popular hirudotherapy is used for:

1. Stagnation in the body, such as:

  • thrombophlebitis

  • disease of the breast
  • hemorrhoids

2. In gynecology:

  • with an ovarian cyst
  • with various types of infertility

3. For cardiovascular diseases:

  • hypertension
  • atherosclerosis
  • coronary heart disease

  • strokes

Thanks to leeches, you can cope with skin diseases, cellulite, obesity, urological diseases and hormonal disorders. Leeches are actively used in cosmetology, with their help even mental disorders, such as depression, can be treated.

The leech has three jaws, with which it bites through the skin approximately 1,5 mm in depth. The leech bite is almost painless. After the leech bites through the skin, it begins to inject a secret secreted by the salivary glands into the wound. Thanks to the injected components, the patient’s blood is diluted, and after that the leech can suck out the blood. During one session, during which they put, at the discretion of the hirudotherapist, 5-7 leeches, they are able to suck from 5 to 15 milliliters of blood.

On average, a hirudotherapy session lasts from 15 minutes to an hour, until the leeches get drunk with blood and themselves fall away from the bite site. After the session, the wounds can bleed and secrete lymph from several hours to a day.

During the course of hirudotherapy, there may be a tendency to decrease hemoglobin in the blood. Therefore, after three sessions, it is advisable to pass a general blood test.

The therapeutic effect of the use of leeches is provided by a triple action.

1. Due to the suction of blood by the leech, the effect of bloodletting occurs, which relieves the patient’s blood flow and cleans the blood vessels.

2. Due to the fact that leeches bite through the skin and stick to it exclusively at the acupuncture points of the body, the acupuncture effect arises.

3. The leech, biting through the skin, begins to secrete saliva – an important secret, which includes many active ingredients. The most important and undeniable effect that leech secretion can achieve is blood thinning.

Leech saliva has both immunostimulating, bacteriostatic and anti-inflammatory effects. Leech secret has a beneficial effect on the walls of blood vessels, blood flow and lymph movement, which in combination contributes to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
