Halibut has a delicate flavor that makes it good in any recipe. Those who have not tried this fish yet can start with simple ways to prepare it, or they can immediately proceed to more festive and original recipes, their variety allows you to find the right one for any occasion.

How to fry halibut fillets

To prepare a delicious dish according to one of the simplest and most affordable recipes, you will need:

– 0,5 kg of halibut fillet; – 1 egg; – salt, black pepper; – 50 g bread crumbs; – 50 ml of vegetable oil.

If you have frozen fish, defrost the fillet at room temperature by removing it from the freezer beforehand. Simply rinse the chilled fillets under running water. Pat the fish dry with kitchen paper towels and cut the fillets into portions if large enough. Small pieces can be fried whole. Salt each piece of fish on both sides, sprinkle with pepper, immerse in a lightly beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs. Then place the fish in a preheated skillet with boiling vegetable oil and fry until crusty, then turn over and fry until tender. Do not cover the pan with a lid, otherwise you will get stewed fish with a moist unappetizing breading as a result of cooking. Place the finished fish on a paper towel or parchment paper to absorb excess oil.

You can also use a microwave oven to defrost fillets, but only with the natural defrosting process all juices are preserved in the fish, while in the microwave it can turn out to be slightly dried

How to bake halibut in the oven

Cook halibut, avoiding excess fat, that is, bake the fish in the oven. Take:

– 0,5 kg of halibut; – 50 g sour cream; – 10 g of vegetable oil; – 1 head of onion; – salt, black pepper, marjoram; – baking foil.

Prepare the fillets by defrosting them if necessary. Cut into portions. Cut the foil into sheets and fold each into a kind of boat, grease the bottom of which with vegetable oil, and put onion rings on it. Salt the fish, place on the onion, sprinkle the fillet with spices on top and put a spoonful of sour cream on each piece, then connect the edges of the foil to each other, resulting in airtight envelopes with fish inside. Bake halibut in an oven preheated to 180 ° C for 20 minutes.

How to make halibut casserole

This recipe combines both fish and a side dish. To prepare a dish using it, take:

– 0,5 kg of halibut fillet; – 0,5 kg of potatoes; – 2 heads of onions; – 100 g of grated hard cheese; – 200 g sour cream; – 10 g of olive oil; – salt, pepper to taste.

Grease the bottom of the mold with vegetable oil and put a layer of pre-peeled and sliced ​​potatoes into it. Place halibut fillets on top of the potatoes. If it is frozen, bring it to room temperature beforehand, cook chilled immediately. Season the fish with salt and pepper. Put onion rings on it, and pour sour cream on top. Roast the halibut and potatoes in the oven for 30 minutes, then add grated cheese on top and cook the fish for another 10 minutes. For halibut to be ready, a temperature of 180 ° C is sufficient.
