Gold Medal for Madrid Gastronomy

The mayor of the capital of Spain will award Madrid’s Gastronomy the Gold Medal of the City.

As an economic engine and effective collaborator in recovery and employment, we want to make this distinction with the city’s golden decoration so that its culture and dynamism continue to be a benchmark in the capital.

Tourism, whether internal or international, has been growing as a source of income for the community and therefore for the city, and part of this leisure activity is the gastronomy de la ciudad.

In recent years, more than 8 million annual visitors have chosen the capital of Spain to spend a few days and enjoy its leisure, its architecture, its parks, its bars and its restaurants …

In the words of the Mayor Ana Botella:

“I am going to propose to the Plenary of the City Council the concession on the day of San Isidro of the Gold Medal of the city of Madrid to the gastronomy of Madrid”

Within the promotion axes carried out by the City of Madrid, Gastronomy will become one of the main points within the strategic plan that the Tourism Board will carry out between 2015 and 2019.

The international promotion of this measure and the culinary activity of the city, it will be done in the tourist forums of 18 Spanish cities and 30 of the rest of the world, such as China, India, United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Peru or Brazil.

Events that have been going on for several years and the current and newer ones such as Madrid Fusión; the Salón de Gourmets, Gastrofestival Madrid, or Madrid Exquisito, Madrid Restaurant Week or the innumerable tapas fairs in each district or neighborhood, have been key for the council to highlight this activity so “tasty” and at the same time “nutritious” and grant the best mention and recognition that the city can make to a Cultural Heritage, although for the moment immaterial …
