There is good news and bad news when it comes to treating glaucoma. Let’s start with the good one! With current treatments, it is possible to keep a functional vision in the majority of people with glaucoma.

The less good news is that glaucoma cannot be cured and that lost vision cannot be restored. In addition, the treatments can cause side effects. The majority of patients stop their treatment or do not put on their drops regularly because they do not notice improvement, they are expensive and have side effects.

However, so many of my patients have gone blind because they had stopped their treatment … If you have a problem with your current treatment, I strongly encourage you to discuss it with your ophthalmologist before stopping your treatment. Other solutions are available to you.
