Future moms on ski

Do not stay “too high”

One piece of advice when choosing a ski resort: it should not be located too high in altitude. Pregnant, rather plan a stay in mid-mountain, in other words, below 1 meters. Beyond that, you could quickly suffer from a lack of oxygen. Remember you are breathing for two!

Avoid too long vacations at altitude. A week seems reasonable for a future mother.

Beware of UV

The sun in the mountains can be very treacherous. You get a few rays and, presto, you find yourself scarlet red at the end of the day. THE’ full screen, that’s all it’s true, especially while waiting for Baby! It prevents sunburn and the appearance of the mask of pregnancy (brown spots). Brush your face and neck (including your ears if you’re not wearing a beanie) every two hours. Regularly apply protection to your lips. Finally, never go out without your sunglasses.

Cover up well

Wool sweaters, tights, under-sweaters, scarf, hat… Slip them all in your suitcase! During pregnancy, you should especially think about cover yourself well. If your budget allows it, opt for clothing specially designed for the mountains.

Eat well

Your physical activity, adaptation to altitude and sun exposure involve increasing your intake of anti-oxidants and trace elements. Feast on fresh fruit (at least four a day!), Mostly citrus or kiwi. Reduce, on the other hand, your consumption of coffee or tea which destroys the vitamins you need.

Do not forget to recharge your batteries with a dish of starchy, very present in local specialties (potatoes, crozets…). But watch out for the cheese!

Moderate your activity

Hard to imagine a ski vacation… without skiing? And yet… Skiing while pregnant is not prohibited (no one will check under your suit), but strongly discouraged! Frequent falls and collisions with other skiers pose too great a risk to your pregnancy. Also, would you really feel comfortable on skis with a big belly? Changes in the body (pelvis in front, enlarged abdominal diameter, loss of flexibility, etc.) can affect your balance and your ability to move. For snowboarding, same story. Your organism as a future mother, already fighting against the cold, has need some rest. Isn’t the holiday made for that? Anyway, this year, not sure if you can put on your skis …

What winter sports, pregnant?

Skiing. As the risk of falling is much lower than in alpine skiing, you can practice it while waiting for Baby, as long as you do not force it! Enjoy the snowy landscapes and the calm of the mountain. Stop as soon as you feel tired or too out of breath.

Snowshoes. The ideal activity! You enjoy the scenery while maintaining your shape. Go at your own pace. Walking, which promotes blood circulation, is a sport highly recommended for pregnant women with heavy legs.

In any case, remember to cover yourself well and take with you a bottle of water and a snack (cereal bar, dried fruits, etc.) to regain strength, if necessary! Ski resorts are increasingly diversifying. more their activities. If none of these sports appeal to you, you will certainly find a movie theater, swimming pool or hot tubs to warm you up. Otherwise, you can always wait for Monsieur at the bottom of the slopes, enjoying, not a glass of mulled wine (should you remember that alcohol is prohibited during pregnancy?), But a good chocolate!
