Family skiing: what insurance to provide?

How to get insurance when skiing?

Insurance offered in ski resorts

– You can take out insurance when taking your lift pass. This insurance is valid for the day or for the duration of your ski holiday.

– This insurance covers your civil liability in the event of damage caused to others, But also payment of costs incurred to rescue you and transport you to the nearest hospital, as well as the reimbursement of medical and hospital costs in addition to benefits reimbursed by Social Security and by a provident fund.

– Finally, the contract can also provide for reimbursement of ski passes in proportion to the unused days.

Personal insurance

The guarantee of accidents of life (GAV): it allows you to compensate the people on the contract (you and your relatives) when they have a certain degree of disability. To determine the amount of compensation, the insurance takes into account the degree of incapacity and the consequences of the accident on the working life of the insured.

Individual accident cover : you can receive a capital fixed by the contract in the event of permanent disability, sometimes daily allowances in the event of sick leave or even reimbursement of medical expenses in addition to Social Security.

The out-of-school guarantee : whether your child is responsible or victim, this insurance can intervene.

Family civil liability guarantee (often included in the multi-risk home contract): it covers damage that you may cause to another skier, for example.

– Whatever the contract, always check that a assistance guarantee covers the costs of mountain rescue (helicopter intervention, sleigh descent) and repatriation to a hospital near your home.

Mountain rescue and search costs in general not covered

On the track: the costs of the emergency response have become chargeable since the 1982 mountain law. The helicopter minute can be around 153 €.

Off piste: the intervention of the rescue centers is free until the helicopter descent but then the costs of the various interveners are your responsibility!
