For beauty and benefit: what can be grown at home from a bone

Even if you are not a fan of dacha and garden affairs, sometimes it is still pleasant to admire the fruits of your labor. Fruit – literally. From the seed, you can grow a tree that really will bear fruit.

Avocado

Avocado is an unpretentious plant; even a beginner in gardening can grow it. For planting, you must first peel the bone from the brown peel. The seed will begin to germinate from the blunt end, so either we immediately plant it in the ground and wait a long time, or we first plant it in water.

Correctly submerge the bone in the water halfway. You can make holes in it, insert toothpicks into them and strengthen the seed on the edge of the glass so that the blunt end of the bone is under water. You will have to wait 3 to 12 weeks for the root to appear. When the seed cracks and a sprout emerges from it, plant the plant in a pot of soil. The best soil for avocados is a mixture of equal proportions of peat, turf and river sand.

After about 3 months, the plant will be up to 50 cm high. Young shoots should be protected from sunlight and regularly sprayed with water around the plant to increase moisture.

Orange tree

Do you like oranges? Grow them at home! You can grow a tree from the seeds of ordinary store-bought oranges and start harvesting fruits in 5-10 years.

Collect the bones, rinse them and hold for an hour in hot water no higher than 50-60 degrees. The pots are required for 2 liters. Plant several seeds in each pot to a depth of 2,5 cm. Cover with foil and do not open until shoots appear; this will take about 3 weeks. Transplant the best sprout into a separate pot.

Garnet

For fun, you can try to grow a pomegranate. Its fruits ripen at home for a very long time, but it blooms willingly and beautifully.

Rinse the seeds in cold water. It should be planted in fertile soil to a depth of 1–1,5 cm. Be sure to drain the pot. In about a month, sprouts will appear. Wait until they get stronger, and plant the strongest in separate pots. After 3-4 years, the pomegranate will bloom.

In winter, the plant should be at rest, so from autumn, transfer the pomegranate to a cool place until spring.

Lemon

Lemon is probably the most popular homemade fruit tree. To grow it, choose the largest seed from the fresh fruit and plant it in the ground immediately. For the first couple of years, it is not recommended to replant the plant, so take a 2 liter pot right away. Planting depth – 3 cm. Cover with foil, creating a greenhouse. Seed germination time is 3 to 8 weeks.

The fruits will appear in 3-4 years, but the tree itself will grow no more than 90 cm.

Mango

The stone should be from a ripe fruit, from which the pulp is easily separated. You will need to remove the top layer from the bone. To make the seed germinate faster, place it in water for a week. The soil in the pot should not be acidic, and the container itself should be quite large, since the plant does not like transplanting.

It is impossible to completely cover the bone with earth, half must remain outside. Cover the pot with plastic until the sprout appears, but you will need to ventilate the greenhouse regularly. You will need regular watering and moist air, but do not overdo it, otherwise mold will appear on the leaves. Place the hardened plant on the sunny side.

At home, the tree grows up to 2 meters. To get fruit, good care is not enough, you will need to be vaccinated from a fruiting tree. Flowers and fruits may appear 2 years after inoculation.

Date palm

Fresh or dried dates can be used to grow a beautiful tropical palm tree. Take multiple seeds at once to increase the chances of a successful germination. Place the seeds in water for 1-2 days. Remove the pulp completely to prevent rotting.

You need to plant the bones in an upright position with the sharp end up. Planting depth – 3-4 cm. Cover the container with a film, regularly moisten the soil, there should be no drying out. After 2 weeks, sprouts will appear.

After removing the shelter, you will need to monitor the optimal soil moisture – do not overdry and do not water too much. In the summer, it is useful to arrange souls for the plant. Date palm will not bear fruit at home, but it looks luxurious.

Fejxoa

For feijoa, you need a mixture of leafy earth, peat and river sand in a 2: 2: 1 ratio.

Separate the seeds from the pulp and rinse them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Dry and plant in the ground to a depth of no more than 0,5 cm. The best time for sowing is February.

With timely watering, the seeds will germinate in a month, the fruits will appear in 5-6 years. Feijoa loves light, so place the pot on the sunny side.

Maracuya (passionflower)

Passion fruit is a vine, so if you want to start this plant, prepare enough space for it.

It is best to plant passion fruit in mid-spring. Collecting seeds is easy. Remove the seeds from the fresh fruit and rub them with a napkin. The pulp will separate and then you can rinse them with water.

A container of soil is sufficient for planting seeds. It is recommended to plant in small grooves, the distance between them is 5 cm. Sprinkle with a thin layer of earth and pour from a spray bottle, cover with foil. The term for the emergence of shoots is from 2 weeks to a month.

Remove the greenhouse gradually after germination. The plant does not like direct sunlight and high air temperatures.

Passionflower is a very beautiful plant, after 2 years you will be able to admire unusual tropical flowers. But to get fruit, you need plants with male and female flowers.
