Flayers from Khabarovsk: why there is cruelty in children, psychologist

Forensic psychiatrist Mikhail Vinogradov explained why teenagers are capable of crimes.

For the second week, the whole country has been discussing the terrible, bloody and simply shocking story of the “Khabarovsk knackers”. In short, teenage girls took puppies and cats, promising to put them in good hands. And they brutally killed defenseless animals, filming the whole process on camera. It is impossible to look at these pictures without tears and horror. And the girls, quite prosperous at first glance, became real executioners.

We tried to figure out why this happened, together with an expert.

– Everything that children have, good or bad, originates from the family. We need to figure out what kind of families these girls have, – answers the question by the psychiatrist-criminalist, doctor of medical sciences and professor of psychiatry Mikhail Vinogradov.

One of the girls has a family that looks quite prosperous. Mom works in law enforcement. Dad is a military man. For sure, both have a lot of work. Surely both are supporters of strict discipline. And the second torturer is brought up by the grandmother. Her mother was deprived of her parental rights. Father is gone.

– Here’s your answer. Even if there is both a mom and a dad, if they are both good people and get along with each other, they can not give the child something. First of all, attention. Come home from work – busy with household chores. Cook dinner, finish the report, relax at the TV. And the children don’t care. Its lack is the main problem in modern families, – continues Mikhail Viktorovich.

According to our expert, parents underestimate the role of live communication with a child. After all, five to ten minutes of a warm, confidential conversation is enough for him to calm his soul.

– Stroking a child, hugging, braiding a braid – parental warmth warms children’s souls. And if family relations are good, but formal, this may also be a problem, – says Mikhail Vinogradov.

What can we say about children who grow up without parents. It is even more difficult for them.

The professor is encouraging: it is still possible to recognize childish aggression. True, the parents themselves are not always capable of this. It is better to seek help from a specialist.

– At the age of 13, less often at 12, it is necessary that a psychologist – not a psychiatrist – talk to the child. This is necessary in order to reveal all his innermost desires and aggression, which is characteristic of all children. Reveal and channel in a positive direction.

The thing is that at this age hormonal changes in the body take place. It’s just that the brain is still a child’s, and the aggression is already quite adult. Therefore, teenagers are recommended to be sent to sports clubs – boxing, hockey, aerobics, basketball. Anything, if only he had somewhere to throw out energy.

– Children come home already calm. The release of energy occurred, it was constructive – this is the main thing, – explains Mikhail Viktorovich.

And if you miss this time and the child still went all out? Is it too late to rectify the situation?

– In this case, going to a psychologist is no longer just necessary, but absolutely necessary. Correction of behavior can take about six months. 4-5 months if the child makes contact. And up to a year – if not, – sums up the specialist.
