Fishing line for pike

It is difficult for a beginner to determine what exactly to take as a basis for collecting tackle for a predator, because there are a lot of different options in stores these days. Fishing line for pike is selected according to special parameters, has several varieties. To choose the best, let’s take a closer look at each of them.

Basic requirements for fishing line for pike

The selection of fishing line for pike is both simple and complex. Indeed, with minimal skills, not everyone will be able to choose a good version of the foundation on their own. When forming any type of gear for a predator, the fishing line as a basis should have the following indicators:

  • strength, without it it will be very difficult to bring out even a small copy;
  • elasticity, the quality of the game of the bait depends on it;
  • transparency in the water of the reservoir, then the predator will not be extremely careful;
  • resistance to pike teeth, this will save tackle when biting.

Fishing line for pike fishing for any type of gear must meet exactly these criteria, while the manufacturer can be very different.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that a quality base should stretch a little, by about 10%, this will play an important role in playing a trophy, which often offers resistance.

Subtleties of choice according to the fishing method

What fishing line to use for catching pike largely depends on the fishing method, that is, it is important to first consider how exactly the capture will be made. For bottom fishing in the autumn, thicker diameters with a large margin of safety will be needed, but in summer and spring, thinner fishing lines are chosen for pike. Next, we will consider in more detail each of the types of fishing and find out the selection criteria individually.

Spinning

The best basis for fishing with a spinning blank is a line, with a small thickness it has excellent breaking performance. A braided fishing line is selected for pike, depending on the casting performance of the rod, as well as on the estimated size of the inhabitants of the selected reservoir.

The diameter of the cord will also fluctuate from the time of year:

  • in spring, it is recommended to put a thinner base, which will be minimally noticeable in the water and will not extinguish the game of small lures for this period;
  • in summer it all depends on the depths being fished, the more they are, the thicker the cord is needed, but you should not overdo it either;
  • the thickness of the braid for autumn is needed more, especially in the second half, the zhor and aggression of the predator should not cut off the collected tackle.

The fishing line is also put on spinning rods, but you need to choose from more well-known manufacturers with good casting performance.

It is worth remembering that ordinary knots on a fishing line reduce its breaking load by almost half. For the formation of gear, it is necessary to use special fishing gear.

Zakidushka

This type of fishing is used in the autumn period almost before the freeze-up, so the base should be thick enough. Experienced anglers recommend using monofilament line to collect tackle.

The thickness of the fishing line for the snack is decent, it is preferable to select for this at least 0,45 mm in diameter and thicker. This is explained by the fact that a thinner trophy pike will break without problems.

Braided pike for a snack is not suitable.

Mugs and mugs

For equipment, only a monofilament should be taken, since no matter what the diameter of the braid is, it will be worse to go off with a vole and easily become very tangled.

The thickness of the fishing line should be sufficient; vents are equipped starting from 0,4 mm or more, depending on the inhabited fish.

float tackle

What fishing line is needed to form a float gear is known to anglers with even little experience. Recently, snaps have also been made on a cord, in which case a thinner diameter can be used.

A monofilament is placed on a float for a pike of 0,22-0,28 mm, this is quite enough to catch a medium-sized pike with this equipment. Even large specimens in capable hands will not leave the hook.

The diameter of the cord will need to be thinner, 0,16-0,22 will be enough.

Does color matter?

For pike, the thickness is undoubtedly important, but the color scheme also plays an important role. For spinning, especially in spring and autumn, bright cords are often used; even a small poke of a pike into the bait can be seen through them, but in summer such a color can scare away all the fish in the area. And the fishing line can be colored, is it worth using bright options?

The use of a colored base is often justified, only for this you need to know some subtleties.

base colorwhere apply
transparentcan be used in any body of water, regardless of the terrain
blue or graylakes and rivers with rocky bottom topography
greenon algae-covered lakes and reservoirs
iridescentideal for fishing water areas with different terrain in sunny weather

The bright colors of the monks are left to rig the spinning blank in spring and autumn, while the thickness of the fishing line in both cases will be different.

Which base to choose

Of the variety of fishing lines, three types are most often put on pike, and we will talk about them in more detail.

Monophyletic

The most common type of base for any type of fish. This type of line is used to catch both civilians and predators in the selected water area. It is made from high-quality nylon, it has one vein, and subspecies are distinguished by such distinctive features:

  • monofilament is elastic, it will better fit on the spool when winding, and also fly off later when casting;
  • the copolymer is made from different types of polyamide, it will be strong and tough;
  • the copolymer type is made according to complex technological processes, they will have different features.

The first view will always be transparent, the other two can be colored.

When choosing a monofilament fishing line, you should carefully consider its vein, it should be transparent, have a glassy appearance. This is the key to the strength of your choice.

Network

The thickness of the fishing line from the thickness of the braid will differ greatly with the same breaking loads, which is precisely what explains its great popularity among users. The process of making a braid is based on the interweaving of several fibers, there are two types of such a base:

  1. Cord woven from several fibers.
  2. Woven from multiple sheathed fibers.

Most anglers prefer the unsheathed option, but the latter is also a success.

It should be understood that the cord will be less elastic, but the softness will be at a high level.

Fluorocarbon

This type of base has its drawbacks and advantages, it is a special type of material that anglers are very fond of. Among the positive qualities it is worth highlighting:

  • invisibility in the water column;
  • resistance to abrasion during operation;
  • complete lack of memory;
  • moderate hardness;
  • sinking quickly;
  • not afraid of exposure to ultraviolet radiation;
  • tolerates sudden changes in temperature.

However, the significantly lower breakout rates have prompted anglers to use fluorocarbon as leaders for any of the gear they collect.

The basis for pike fishing can be very different, everyone also chooses the manufacturer on his own, but you should definitely follow the recommendations and advice.
