Fishing during spawning: possible penalties and fines

From a biology course, each of us knows that fish have a spawning period, it is at this time that they spawn, from which fry will subsequently appear. According to the law, during the spawning period, catching pike, and other types of fish, is completely prohibited or has significant restrictions on the gear used. Newbie anglers should understand that ignorance of the law is no excuse. The fine for catching pike will have to be paid in full.

What is a spawning ban and why is it needed

To maintain a sufficient number of fish inhabitants in many water bodies of our country, a spawning ban on catching certain types of fish has been in force since the beginning of April. This norm was developed and introduced after a significant reduction in fish resources. Now the number of fish in the reservoirs is gradually returning to normal, but many do not know about the ban and continue to fish. It is in this case that the fishery supervision can apply administrative rules to the fisherman, according to which a fine will have to be paid, and in some cases the violator will even face criminal liability.

It should be understood that there are many regions in our country, it is impossible to establish a ban on fishing everywhere at the same time, since spring comes at different times. Therefore, before going fishing, you should first find out more information about the prohibitions and restrictions in the selected region, so that the arrival of the fishery supervision does not come as a surprise.

The amount of fines for spawning pike or for other offenses is also set purely individually by region.

The subtleties of fishing during spawning

Not always for catching pike during spawning, an act is issued for a fine. In most regions, amateur fishing is allowed, but some prohibitions are still present. In the “month of silence” it is forbidden:

  • move around the reservoirs on boats with a motor and on oars;
  • drive up to the reservoir by transport closer than 200 m relative to the coastline;
  • to fish in spawning grounds;
  • use more than 2 hooks on one amateur tackle.

These are the main prohibitions, depending on the region, they may be supplemented and clarified.

In order not to become a poacher, you need to know who you can catch and what gear. We will consider all the subtleties below.

What equipment is allowed to be used

Catching pike during the spawning season is allowed, but you need to know what gear to use. In addition, you need to carefully approach the choice of location.

Permitted gear can be presented in the form of a table.

permitted gearprohibited tackle
float with one hookfloat for two or more hooks
spinning blank with one hookspinning on the track
single hook feederlive fishing
any tackle with a metal leash

There is no question of a ban at all for girders, such tackle should wait in the wings, like a snack.

Where can you catch

You can catch pike during spawning in all reservoirs with the above gear, but not in spawning grounds. In each region it is written where the fish goes to spawn, where the capture of any kind of fish inhabitants is completely prohibited.

How can you catch

Is it possible to catch pike from a boat during the spawning period? The law categorically prohibits doing this, for violation, not only a fine is due, but also confiscation of the boat and gear.

Fishing is carried out only from the coastline.

Spawning limitation period

The spawning ban period usually lasts a month, but in each region the authorities themselves have the right to decide when and for how long to impose restrictions. It all depends on the temperature regime and the individual behavior of the fish in the pond.

There is no ban on spawning or other seasonal restrictions on paid reservoirs.

Fines

Among conscientious fishermen, there is an unwritten law that any fish with caviar should be released if it has received minimal damage to the tackle. If an individual caught in a spawning place is taken away, then during the check, the fish supervision department will definitely issue a fine.

Basic Provisions

The legislation of the Russian Federation provides for fines for catching fish with caviar in the wrong place or for prohibited tackle in the amount of

  • from 3 to 300 thousand rubles;
  • if the capture took place from a watercraft, then it is seized along with the gear used.

In case of non-payment of the fine for fishing within the prescribed period, a fine is charged, and travel abroad is strictly prohibited. In addition, systematic violation of laws can lead to criminal liability.

For spearfishing, completely different fines and restrictions are provided; it is strictly forbidden to use this type of catch.

Latest additions to the law

In April, the last amendments to the spawning ban law were made. According to a legal act, a “month of silence” is mandatory throughout the country, during which, in many water areas, catching any fish is strictly prohibited. Significant fines and other types of administrative punishment are provided for violation.

Is it possible to avoid fines and go fishing during spawning?

Is it possible to catch pike during the spawning period, or is it better to give up such a hobby for a while? Pike fishing can take place at any time of the year, the main thing is to choose the right place for this. In spawning grounds, this is strictly prohibited by law, but there are other places to fish.

There is no penalty if the fishing of the water area occurs from the shore, while the tackle consists of one hook, and the vehicle remains more than 200 m from the water’s edge.

If you went fishing during the fish spawning period, you should choose gear for this hobby more carefully, remember that shooting from a hunting rifle underwater is strictly prohibited, and you can only fish with one hook. It should be understood that these are not the whims of the authorities, but a necessary measure to preserve the population of various fish species in the reservoirs of our country and treat this with understanding.
