Features of catching carp

Fishing is an entertaining hobby for many, spending time outdoors, among the trees on the shoreline of a reservoir, is not only pleasant, but also useful. For many anglers with experience, it was carp fishing that was the impetus for learning, after which they want to learn more and more about it. The capture of a carp representative is relatively simple and interesting; in childhood, few people did not happen to do this. However, more experienced grunts say that carp fishing is a whole art that needs to be studied thoroughly, only then it will be possible to get truly trophy specimens without any problems.

Carp by species

The aboriginal of the European part among the cyprinids is the golden crucian carp, but it is quite problematic to find it now. It has long been squeezed in by a fellow from Asia, silver carp. Catching these two species is no different, but every fisherman should be able to recognize them.

Gold

Another name for an ichthyite is ordinary, it is he who is the native European among crucian carp. He inhabited almost all reservoirs with stagnant and little flowing water, with equal success it was possible to find him from the cool waters of Norway to warm freshwater in Italy. Now the distribution area of this species has changed a little, it is easier to find goldfish in the swampy reservoirs of the Asian part of Russia, China, and Mongolia.

The salient features are:

  • flat, rounded body;
  • dorsal and caudal fins brown;
  • scales are large, give bronze.

As a maximum, this species lives no more than 12 years, while it reaches half a meter in length, and the giant will weigh 5 kilos. A favorite habitat is swampy areas of lakes and rivers, strong thickets in the water area will definitely become a place for its refuge.

Silver

This representative of the cyprinid came to us from the Far Eastern Pacific Ocean thanks to the human factor; back in the middle of the last century, it was artificially bred everywhere as an industrial fish species. Silver quickly adapted to the conditions and gradually replaced the gold from its usual habitats. Now most of the reservoirs are inhabited by this particular representative of cyprinids, it can be found everywhere. The dominant is recognized by such features:

  • the body is flat and rounded;
  • the scales are dense, large, have a grayish or greenish tint;
  • fins are all light, almost transparent.

The life expectancy of a golden fellow is smaller, maximum 9 years, during this period the fish can reach 40 cm in length, and the weight will be no more than 3 kg. This representative of cyprinids will be able to live in absolutely any conditions, its unique ability to adapt is already known to everyone.

Both species have the same gastronomic preferences, with pleasure they eat both plant-based food options and animals. The reaction to changing weather conditions will also be the same, in particular, when the water temperature drops to 10 degrees, activity is greatly reduced.

Promising fishing spots

You can catch carp in almost any body of water, it is not at all necessary to choose water areas with crystal clear water, with only shallow water or significant depths. The representative of cyprinids feels great both in silted lakes of small size and in the backwaters of large rivers with minimal flow, but the presence of vegetation and snags is essential for its normal existence. The nature of the bottom can be ignored, sandy and clayey-silty areas will become a haven with equal success. But the fish avoids great depths; as much as possible, crucian carp can sink no more than 3-4 m.

It is worth avoiding places with a strong current when fishing, crucian carp do not like it. But thickets of reeds, pondweed, sedges will attract this ichthy-dweller in the summer heat. In the spring, the fish comes out to the shallows to bask, most often a trifle splashes here. Catching carp in winter is almost impossible, it falls into suspended animation, practically does not eat and does not move, or simply burrows into the silt in anticipation of better times.

When the crucian pecks

Carp are thermophilic, for normal life they need a water temperature of +15, at 10 plus their metabolism is significantly reduced, they stand almost motionless at the very bottom, it is almost impossible to seduce them with a tasty treat. Depending on the season and the temperature of the water in the reservoir, fish will be caught in different ways:

  • with the onset of freezing and gradual warming of the water, crucian carp will begin to show activity, at first they can be seen near the coastline on shallows and beaches, then with an increase in temperature they will move a little deeper. Large individuals will become more active later, but as soon as the weather stabilizes, there will be no frosts in the morning, and the spawning period will be closer, they will show interest in almost any offered bait.
  • In the summer, after spawning, the bite of crucian carp will be stable. Only the phase of the moon can affect it, but partially, and sudden changes in weather conditions.
  • At the beginning of autumn, if it is warm, crucian carp will take everything just as actively. With a decrease in temperature, the fish will begin to fall into suspended animation. With the appearance of the ice edge on the pond, the crucian carp will go down to the wintering hole and will wait for the onset of spring warmth there.

Features of catching carp

In winter, you can try to catch this representative of cyprinids from ice, but how to catch crucian carp in winter? First of all, you need to wait for a significant thaw, and only then go fishing.

Fishing methods

There are many tackles for catching crucian carp, it is not at all difficult to collect and use them. Next, it is worth considering in more detail the most popular options.

Poplavochka

Float tackle is considered a classic of the genre, and for crucian carp, both sliding installation and deaf installation can be used. To succeed, you need to be able to choose all the components correctly.

constituentsblind tacklesliding mounting
blank typefly rodbolognese rod
basismonk with a diameter of up to 0,2 mm, the footage depends on the length of the formmonk or cord wound on a reel, diameter from 0 mm for fishing line and 16 for cord, you need from 0,1 m or more
floatblind type for cambric or nipplesliding type
hooksdepending on the nozzle used, from No. 12 to No. 6 according to modern classificationfrom #14 to #7

Leashes must be installed for both types of snaps, and their breaking load should be an order of magnitude lower than that of the mounting base.

The weight of the float depends on the size of the water being fished, for long casting you need a heavier option, for fishing near the coastline and in the spring, lighter and more sensitive products are usually used.

Feeder

They also catch crucians for feeder installation, these days few people have heard anything at all about the “crucian killer”. To collect tackle you need to have:

  • feeder form with test values up to 70 g, the length of which varies from 2,4 m to 3,5 m;
  • inertialess reel with a spool no more than 2500, it is possible without a baitrunner;
  • as a basis, both a fishing line and a braided cord are used, the thickness, respectively, from 0,28 mm for a monk and 0,12 mm for a cord;
  • they form the tackle itself on a cut of the cord a little thicker, the installation can be from one, two and three feeders with the same number of leashes.

The bite signaling device is a sagging float or electronic versions with swingers of various modifications are used.

Donkey

The most effective, but almost forgotten method of catching crucian carp on the bottom is an elastic band. You can fish completely silently, while the shock absorber will allow you not to pull out the tackle every time you hook and play completely. The use of a powerful sinker and the presence of a watercraft will help to position the tackle far from the coastline, which will facilitate the capture of large specimens in the reservoir.

Assemble a donkey with a rubber shock absorber from the following fragments:

  • reel with one longer and pointed end;
  • a piece of fishing line with a diameter of at least 0,3 mm and a length of 50 m or more;
  • a piece of shock absorber, the so-called gum, its length is at least 7 m;
  • leashes, they are knitted from a fishing line with a slightly lower gap, 0,18-0,2 mm is ideal;
  • hooks, they can be placed from 2 to 6 per installation, the size depends on the bait used, usually use No. 5-8.

This tackle allows you to use several types of bait at once, then, having realized that crucian carp like it more right here and now, they switch to the most vending yummy.

Spinning

The spinning blank is very rarely used to catch this type of carp fish, but this is exactly what carp are often caught on in August. The tackle is formed from a light blank, inertialess, high-quality cord, with a diameter of 0,1-0,12 mm. As a bait, a natural-colored silicone worm is used, it is preferable to use edible options. They put it on a jig head up to 3 g, standard wiring is used:

  • stepped;
  • uniform;
  • slow.

Tackle with a side nod

This tackle is known firsthand to inveterate carp fishermen, with dense vegetation on the reservoir, it will allow them to catch with a bang. A nod can be installed both on a lap dog and on a fly blank, in addition, the tackle includes:

  • reel, on which tackle is collected;
  • a sufficient amount of fishing line, with a diameter of 0,16 mm;
  • a mormyshka acts as a sinker and bait at the same time, to enhance the bite, bloodworms or pieces of a worm are planted on it.

The nod will show the vole, in fact, it performs a dual function: it helps to play the mormyshka and indicates the bite.

Fishing is carried out in the windows between the vegetation, making a couple of throws and not getting a result, they move on to the next potentially promising place.

What does it bite

To catch a crucian, you need to have several types of bait in your arsenal at once, since this fish is quite capricious. In the same pond in the morning, she can happily take animal options, and at lunchtime she can drastically change her diet and switch to vegetable ones.

Features of catching carp

The best plant options are:

  • corn;
  • semolina;
  • pea mastyrka;
  • steamed barley;
  • boiled barley grain.

Recently, protein dough has been often used, but it will not work always and not everywhere.

Of the animal options, the classics are:

  • dung worm;
  • white and colored maggot;
  • bloodworm.

The crucian carp will also respond perfectly to all kinds of variations of sandwiches, and you can use both vegetable and animal components.

Bait is considered an important element, without it there is nothing to do on fishing. Depending on the season, crucian carp has different preferences:

  • in early spring and late autumn, garlic bait of our own production or purchased will work in cold water, krill, halibut will attract good attention;
  • in summer, in warm water, the crucian reacts well to sweet options: vanilla, halva, caramel will definitely appeal to him;
  • in winter, you can try to offer a representative of carp food with a bloodworm.

Strawberry, plum, creamy, fruity scents can also work well, the main thing is not to overdo it with flavoring.

Catching crucian carp has its own subtleties and secrets, you should find out in advance and learn how to use them to your advantage. We have already analyzed some, we will try to find out the rest in the following articles, in particular, we will analyze how the north wind is displayed on the biting crucian.
