Father’s Day in 2022 in Our Country: the history and traditions of the holiday
Father’s Day is a relatively new holiday in Our Country, which has recently received official status. We will tell you when to congratulate fathers in 2022 and what traditions have developed on this day

Each of us knows when Mother’s Day is celebrated, but Father’s Day is less known. Meanwhile, this holiday has a hundred-year history. Many countries have already developed their own traditions. In Our Country, they are just being formed. But it would be unfair not to note the role of the second parent in the upbringing of children.

When is Father’s Day celebrated in Our Country and the world in 2022

The celebration has several dates.

Most countries around the world celebrate Dad’s Day on the third Sunday of summer – in 2022 it will be 19 June.

But in Our Country, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of October – the corresponding decree was signed by the President of Our Country in 2021. Therefore, popes will celebrate their official day in 2022 16 October.

history of the holiday

It all started back in 1909 in the American city of Spokane in the state of Washington. At a Mother’s Day church service, Sonora local Louise Smart Dodd wondered why there wasn’t a similar holiday for fathers. Sonora’s own mother died after giving birth to her sixth child. The children were raised by their father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran. He became a loving and caring parent and role model for his children. The woman created a petition in which she painted how important the role of the father in the family is. Local authorities supported the initiative. The celebration was to take place on June 5, the birthday of William Smart. But they did not have time to finish all the preparations by the appointed date, so the holiday was postponed to the 19th. Other cities soon took up the idea. She was supported even by US President Calvin Coolidge. The politician said that such a holiday will only strengthen the relationship between fathers and children, and it certainly will not be superfluous.

In 1966, another US President, Lyndon Johnson, made this day a national holiday. It was then that the date was approved – the third Sunday of June. Gradually, this Father’s Day spread throughout the world. Now it is celebrated in more than 30 countries, including the UK, Canada, France.

Father’s Day came to Our Country recently, and received an official status on October 4, 2021, along with the corresponding Decree of Vladimir Putin.

It is interesting that in some regions this day has been approved by law for many years. Cherepovets, Novosibirsk, Volgograd, Lipetsk, Kursk and Ulyanovsk regions are among the pioneers. In some regions, Father’s Day is celebrated on other dates. Volgograd, for example, since 2008 honors all popes on November 1, Altai Territory – on the last Sunday of April (since 2009).

Holiday traditions

The first celebration of Father’s Day in Our Country took place in 2014. This year, the Papa Fest festival was held in Moscow. Since that time, it has been held annually not only in the capital, but also in Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad and Kazan. Also on this day, quests and festive festivities are arranged in the cities. And regional administrations award cash prizes to fathers of many children.

Other countries have their own traditions. On a special scale, the holiday is celebrated in Finland. During the day, it is customary to go to the cemetery, to honor the memory of dead men. And in the evening, households gather at the festive table, sing songs, arrange dances.

In Australia, Father’s Day is an occasion to get out into nature. Picnics are believed to strengthen family bonds and bring happiness to the family.

In the Baltic countries, in kindergartens and schools, children make appliqués and other crafts and give them to their dads and even grandfathers.

In Italy, Father’s Day is the main holiday for Italian men. Traditional gifts are perfume or a bottle of expensive wine.

In Japan, the holiday has been renamed “Boys’ Day”. Residents of the Land of the Rising Sun believe that masculinity should be instilled from early childhood. And on this day, future samurai are given swords, knives and other weapons of defense.
