Dimples on the cheeks: how to do?

Dimples on the cheeks add charm to their owners. Such people are attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex, even if they are not particularly beautiful. The people call dimples on the cheeks “the mark of happiness” and “the kiss of an angel.” It is possible to make such “marks” on the face artificially – with the help of plastic surgery.

What are the dimples on the cheeks?

Dimples on the cheeks are given to a person by nature. They represent visible depressions at the corners of the mouth, round or elongated vertically. As a rule, with relaxed muscles, they are not visible and reveal themselves only when you smile. They can be of various shapes, sizes and depths. Usually, dimples appear on both cheeks, but in some cases, the dimple appears on only one side.

The dimples on the cheeks, which many people find so attractive, from a physiological point of view, are nothing more than a rare genetic defect due to the structure of the large zygomatic muscle, which is also called the “muscle of laughter.” In addition, dimples are often found in young children with chubby cheeks, whose zygomatic muscle is not yet sufficiently developed.

The large zygomatic muscle is responsible for the formation of dimples, which, when contracted, raises the corners of the mouth, forming a smile. A small bundle of this muscle, which has a bifurcated structure, moves to the side in 30% of people and grows to the dermis of the cheek. In this case, when the muscle contracts with a smile, the welded part of the cheek is pulled inward, as a result of which a depression is formed on it.

This effect is especially noticeable on chubby cheeks, since the fat layer additionally raises the skin segment around the muscle augmentation site. As a person matures and the zygomatic muscle is stretched, the cheek fat layer becomes thinner and the dimple disappears or appears less visible.

Why do others like dimples on their cheeks?

According to statistics, the dimples on the cheeks in most people are associated with a romance of nature, playfulness and a somewhat childish way that inspires trust and sympathy. After all, children often have dimples that disappear with age, making their face more serious and more mature.

In some Asian countries, the presence of dimples increases a person’s sex appeal

Many would like to return sincerity, openness, attractiveness and touching to the image. Moreover, it is believed that the owners of such a “zest” are happier in life, and most men prefer girls with dimples.

Some people like hollows on their cheeks, some don’t, but there are few people who would be completely indifferent to them.

The popularity of dimple ectomy

As mentioned above, dimples on the cheeks are not typical for all people. And those people who want to become the owners of such depressions turn to plastic surgery clinics with a request to perform a dimple-ectomy operation.

Artificial dimples on the cheeks are the latest trend in plastic surgery. American and British women massively sign up for the dimplectomy procedure and in just a few hours transform their face, seducing those around them with a charming smile in the style of Aishwarya Rai or Kate Middleton. In Russia, this procedure is not yet very common, but in America it has long become commonplace, since it is quite inexpensive and very simple.

Before the dimplectomy procedure, the plastic surgeon will discuss with you exactly where the dimple will be located, what is its shape, depth, size. This operation has no restrictions on the type of skin and face, the thickness of the fat layer – we can say that it is almost universal. However, it is important to remember that the result of such a procedure is irreversible. Subsequently, it will not be possible to remove the dimple, you can only reduce its depth with a second operation.

If the patient wishes, it is possible to carry out the dimplectomy procedure under general anesthesia

The dimplectomy procedure is performed in the following sequence:

  1. a marker marks exactly the place on the cheek where the dimple will be located
  2. an anesthetic injection is given (local anesthesia)
  3. a small incision of the mucous membrane is made on the inside of the cheek using a special tool
  4. fatty lumps are removed at the incision site
  5. with the help of a surgical thread, soft tissues in the treated area are pulled together with a surgical thread, which forms a dimple

This operation takes approximately 30 minutes, maximum 1 hour. After the procedure, the patient is not required to be in the hospital, he can immediately go home. Swelling will appear in the cheeks, but it will be insignificant. There is no need to skip work, school, or somehow change your usual lifestyle.

Dimples on the cheeks: how to do?

Visually, the dimples will become visible immediately after the operation. At first they will be visible all the time, even when the patient is not smiling. This period in different people can last from several days to a month, since it depends on the individual characteristics of the organism and the volume of surgical intervention. Over time, the thread will dissolve, the surface of the skin will even out, and dimples will appear only when you smile.

In the postoperative period, painful sensations are possible, but they are insignificant and can be easily removed with a pain reliever recommended by a doctor. The doctor will also prescribe antibiotics for you to take during the first days after surgery.

For the first 2–4 days after dimplectomy, it is not recommended to eat solid foods that require careful and long chewing. In addition, every time after eating, it is imperative to rinse the mouth with special antibacterial solutions to prevent infection from entering the wound.
