Dimples on the cheeks add charm to their owners. Such people are attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex, even if they are not particularly beautiful. The people call dimples on the cheeks “the mark of happiness” and “the kiss of an angel.” It is possible to make such “marks” on the face artificially – with the help of plastic surgery.

The large zygomatic muscle is responsible for the formation of dimples, which, when contracted, raises the corners of the mouth, forming a smile. A small bundle of this muscle, which has a bifurcated structure, moves to the side in 30% of people and grows to the dermis of the cheek. In this case, when the muscle contracts with a smile, the welded part of the cheek is pulled inward, as a result of which a depression is formed on it.
This effect is especially noticeable on chubby cheeks, since the fat layer additionally raises the skin segment around the muscle augmentation site. As a person matures and the zygomatic muscle is stretched, the cheek fat layer becomes thinner and the dimple disappears or appears less visible.

The dimplectomy procedure is performed in the following sequence:
- a marker marks exactly the place on the cheek where the dimple will be located
- an anesthetic injection is given (local anesthesia)
- a small incision of the mucous membrane is made on the inside of the cheek using a special tool
- fatty lumps are removed at the incision site
- with the help of a surgical thread, soft tissues in the treated area are pulled together with a surgical thread, which forms a dimple
This operation takes approximately 30 minutes, maximum 1 hour. After the procedure, the patient is not required to be in the hospital, he can immediately go home. Swelling will appear in the cheeks, but it will be insignificant. There is no need to skip work, school, or somehow change your usual lifestyle.
Dimples on the cheeks: how to do?
Visually, the dimples will become visible immediately after the operation. At first they will be visible all the time, even when the patient is not smiling. This period in different people can last from several days to a month, since it depends on the individual characteristics of the organism and the volume of surgical intervention. Over time, the thread will dissolve, the surface of the skin will even out, and dimples will appear only when you smile.
In the postoperative period, painful sensations are possible, but they are insignificant and can be easily removed with a pain reliever recommended by a doctor. The doctor will also prescribe antibiotics for you to take during the first days after surgery.
For the first 2–4 days after dimplectomy, it is not recommended to eat solid foods that require careful and long chewing. In addition, every time after eating, it is imperative to rinse the mouth with special antibacterial solutions to prevent infection from entering the wound.
