Covid-19: 60% of the French population is fully vaccinated

The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in France reached an important milestone this Thursday, August 19, 2021. Indeed, according to data published by the health authorities, 60,1% of the French population is now fully vaccinated against Covid- 19 and 69,9% received at least one injection.

60% of French people now have a complete vaccination schedule

In its daily update, the Ministry of Health announced this Thursday, August 19, 2021 that 60,1% of the French population now has a complete vaccination schedule against Covid-19. Specifically, this represents 40.508.406 fully vaccinated people and 47.127.195 people who received at least one injection, or 69,9% of the total population. Note that on July 25, 50% of the French population had received two injections, and 60% at least one injection. In total, 83.126.135 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been injected since the start of the vaccination campaign in France.

While France has reached a new milestone in its vaccination campaign, Prime Minister Jean Castex spoke on the subject on Twitter, saying Wednesday: ” 40 million French people now have a complete vaccination schedule. They are protected. They protect their loved ones. They preserve our hospital system from saturation “. Therefore, the next expected step is that of the objective set by the government, namely to reach 50 million first-time vaccinated by the end of August.

Collective immunity soon?

According to experts and epidemiologists, 11,06% of French people remain to be vaccinated before achieving collective immunity. Indeed, the percentage of immunized subjects necessary to obtain collective immunity has been set at 80% for Covid-19 with the new variants. On the other hand, and as the Institut Pasteur points out on its website, “ Of course, the acquired immunity must remain effective over time. If this is not the case, vaccination boosters are necessary ».

As a reminder, the Institut Pasteur defines collective immunity as ” percentage of a given population that is immune / protected against infection from which an infected subject introduced into that population will transmit the pathogen to less than one person on average, effectively bringing the epidemic to extinction, as the pathogen encounters too many protected subjects. This group or collective immunity can be obtained by natural infection or by vaccination (if there is a vaccine of course) ».
