Countries and their capitals

Below is a list with all the states of the world and their capitals, broken down by different parts of the world (in separate tables). Also, for convenience, the countries are sorted alphabetically.

Europe

Due to the special geographical location, Turkey and Kazakhstan simultaneously belong to both European and Asian countries (the so-called transcontinental states). A smaller part of their territory is located in Europe, and a large part – in Asia.

The North Caucasus can also be attributed to either Europe or Asia. It all depends on how the border is drawn:

• along the Kumo-Manych depression – as is customary in Europe;
• along the watershed of the Greater Caucasus – as is customary in America.

According to the second option, Azerbaijan and Georgia can conditionally be considered transcontinental states with most of their territory in Asia. And sometimes they are considered European countries (for geopolitical reasons).

Armenia and Cyprus are also sometimes referred to as European states due to historical and cultural factors, although geographically their entire territory is located in Asia.
