Acupuncture, as a form of treatment and therapy, belongs to Chinese medicine. Acupuncture was also practiced in Japan and Mongolia. Currently, this form of therapy has found its way to many other countries, including Western countries, where it enjoys great success and recognition.

Medical effectiveness of acupuncture

Although acupuncture has been known for centuries, its medical effectiveness is still the subject of much debate and research. The results are inconsistent, although in many cases acupuncture seems to have a real effect on the human body.

According to typical Chinese medicine, acupuncture is supposed to restore the body’s natural energy, and this is supposed to lead out of diseases. It is known that acupuncture treatments certainly help reduce pain to some extent, but they also affect the patient’s psyche, reducing the accompanying stress and allowing you to feel better.

What does an acupuncture treatment look like?

The body is punctured with special needles used only in this medical art. The puncture points are not randomly selected, and these are places known for a long time, which according to the Chinese are located on the energy lines of the body. Of course, Western medicine cannot agree with such a treatment of the subject, which is not reflected in strictly scientific research and experiments.

Interesting facts about acupuncture:

  • It can be studied in China as one of the main and extremely popular fields of study
  • The beginnings of practicing acupuncture date back to the times and the Neolithic era. So it is a known healing technique since over 4 BC!
  • In the case of AIDS patients, acupuncture seems to increase the immunity of patients

Acupuncture and psychology

Interestingly, acupuncture treatments are also used as a remedy for hysteria and some types of neuroses. They bring particularly good results in the case of anxiety neurosis and all kinds of depression. However, studies have not shown an improvement in the functioning of people suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder or schizophrenia after using acupuncture.

Vital energy in acupuncture

The heart and circulatory system can be associated with the vital energy Qj (“chi” energy). The Chinese believe that this energy flows through special energy channels – meridians – and, interestingly, also blood vessels, thanks to which “energy” along with the blood is also transferred to all body cells and organs. These beliefs have some reflection in modern medicine when we look at the functions of the circulatory system in the human body. The circulatory and lymphatic systems actually carry the “energy” stored in oxygen and nutrients to other parts of the body.
