The new is the well-forgotten old: what was fashionable decades ago is again at the peak of its popularity. Makeup artist Elena Kapitonova told the readers of Wday.ru about the current makeup options, as well as about the best trends of the past to be left in 2020.
1. Arrows: Down with Perfectionism!
Fashion shows define not only wardrobe trends, but also set the tone for makeup. In 2021, beauty gurus offer a slight negligence: in the trend – retro arrows, including red, charcoal eyeliner along the contour, “circular” arrows, wide without a middle or classic black, which, in the best traditions of Hollywood, expand from the inner corners of the eyes to external. And also new combinations of shades of smoky eyes, which leading makeup artists have proposed to lighten, replacing heavy gray and black shadows with pastel tones. You can apply arrows using a pencil or eyeliner, the main thing is to remember that a slightly uneven, as if sloppy edge is popular.
2. Blue and purple shadows: what to combine them with
Pastel shades, blue and purple tones are back in a fashionable palette (by the way, blue did not leave the catwalks). Therefore, the question of what to combine them with is very relevant. But if earlier it was customary to use the color wheel to choose a shade (that is, the colors were selected by contrast, where yellow-orange corresponded to blue-violet), today these rules can not be followed. And if you wish, follow the color scheme, framing purple shadows with cold shades, for example, pink. And, as before, combine bright eye makeup with nude lipstick or transparent lip gloss, which will become especially relevant.

Although the 50s of the last century are considered the golden age of red lipstick, the fashion for it will never pass, perhaps because this color is suitable for absolutely all women. “No gloss will look as gorgeous as red lipstick!” – once noticed the actress Charlize Theron. And I was not mistaken, because it was the classic red that was leading at fashion shows – 2021. The trend is also a deep shade of dark cherry, which is included in the summer palette in the coming year, and plum in the style of vamp, and red metallic. The main thing is to choose your own shade.
4. Brow boom
Thick eyebrows – hello 50 too. While natural looks are still in vogue next season, they remain in trend. In the spirit of the times – styling with the effect of “scause eyebrows”, which allows you to give them the required volume and visually make them thicker. The main tendency is not to darken the eyebrows, but only to accentuate them slightly: they should not stand out too much against the background of other facial features. Therefore, it is worth giving preference to natural color and light staining: not so much for correction, but in order to make them more accurate. Special lipsticks for eyebrows will help create the illusion of volume with the help of makeup, and not just the usual pencils, shadows and gels. Thanks to its creamy texture, rich in pigments, it is able to give brows both color and shape that will look natural. If you comb your eyebrows correctly – from the bottom up, and then apply makeup with such a lipstick and fix with a gel with a strong hold, the result will be long-lasting and effective.
Another catwalk trend is the string eyebrows, which were in vogue in the 90s, as well as bleached eyebrows, however, this option is unlikely to appeal to many.
Trends of the past – what is the time to part with?
The trend number 1 is the absence of makeup, because in fashion there is a triumph of naturalness. In this regard, makeup in the style of Kim Kardashian is a thing of the past: contouring, lush eyelashes and a dense tone are what make-up artists offer to say goodbye to this season. If more recently they only advised to imitate the absence of makeup, then in the new season they vote for absolute naturalness.
Although matte lipstick in a nude shade is a classic, it will not be a hit, but gloss.
The intense scarlet, orange and peach shades of blush, which should be preferred to a natural tone, will also have to be said “No”.
Anti-trend – bright contouring, clear lines, matte skin, shaggy eyebrows.
A clean, fresh face with a slight blush is the hot trend of the new season. But if you really want to bring bright colors to life, you can safely experiment with 50 shades of red to choose “your” lipstick, instead of boring gray, apply rainbow smoky eyes, make a charcoal eyeliner a la Nefertiti. The main thing is to dose and skillfully combine colors, then the image will be stylish and individual.
