Big diamond found in South Africa

One of the largest diamonds in history was found in South Africa: according to preliminary estimates, a stone weighing more than 500 carats, unique in its white color and purity, can cost about $ 20 million.

The developers of the mine from the Petra Diamonds jewelry house found the stone on September 24, but decided to withhold the information until all the necessary examinations were carried out.

“Initial examination of the diamond has shown it to be of exceptional color and clarity,” Petra Diamonds said in a statement.

Simultaneously with a unique white diamond weighing 507,55 carats, three stones of the same quality were also found in the mine, but smaller in size – 168 carats, 58,50 carats and 53,30 carats, respectively.

After careful examination, the largest diamond found will be given its own name. According to experts, it will be included in the top 20 largest diamonds found.

As a rule, such large stones are tried not to be divided into smaller ones, they are given a classic cut, after which the diamond is called a diamond. Most likely, the find will settle in a museum or private collection.
