Reading time – 3 minutes.

Beets contain a lot of fiber, which has a beneficial effect on intestinal motility. The vegetable can be used successfully to prevent and treat constipation. The root vegetable has a mild laxative effect on the body. To combat constipation, beets can be consumed both raw and boiled. If there are problems with the gastrointestinal tract, it is better to give preference to boiled beets: they act more delicately.

To treat constipation, you need to eat about 100 g of boiled beets on an empty stomach, half an hour before meals. The duration of the course is 1-2 weeks. Having got rid of constipation, beets continue to be included in the menu 2-3 times a week for prevention. Instead of boiled beets, you can drink freshly squeezed beet juice of raw beets on an empty stomach. Start with 1 tablespoon, and gradually increase to 150 ml per day for adults, and 150 ml for children.

Constipation in children is also treated with a mixture of freshly squeezed beet, cucumber and carrot juices (1: 1: 1). Give before meals, the maximum volume is 70 ml. Treatment of constipation in infants should be discussed with a pediatrician.

Expectant mothers with constipation can eat a salad of raw or boiled beets (150 g) and prunes soaked in boiling water (30 g).
