What are the benefits of barley, and everything about the correct cooking of barley groats

Despite the fact that barley is the raw material for both barley and pearl barley, the former is much more useful. Barley groats are crushed and peeled kernels of barley, making them easier to digest and better absorbed. It is a source of silicon, iodine, zinc, iron and B vitamins, as well as a lot of fiber. To preserve all these elements, it is enough to boil the cereals, observing some rules.

Barley porridge is indicated for problems in the work of the heart, as it contains a substance lysine, which promotes the formation of carnitine, which supports the health of the cardiovascular system.

Before cooking barley grits, it is advisable to sort it out beforehand, since it may contain garbage, spoiled grains, and their husks. After that, the barley must be thoroughly rinsed, changing the water several times, and only then start cooking.

It is easier and faster to cook barley porridge, already packaged in portioned bags. In addition to the fact that such cereals are initially cleared of all impurities, it requires less time-consuming processing. The only drawback of such a product is the rather high price in comparison with the weight of barley groats.

How to cook delicious barley porridge

To prepare delicious barley porridge, you will need:

– 100 g of cereals; – 200 g of water; – salt and sugar to taste. – milk or cream – to taste.

The washed cereal must be poured with hot water and left overnight. In the morning, it will slightly increase in size, absorbing water and becoming softer, after which it will be necessary to add more water to the pan and put the porridge to cook. The volume of water should be approximately twice the volume of the cereal, as it will swell during cooking.

It will take at least an hour to cook porridge, if during this time the water evaporates and the cereal does not reach the desired degree of softness, water will need to be added. In the process, the porridge should be stirred and salted several times. After removing from heat, you can add butter and sugar to the porridge to taste, a little milk or cream, if it will not be served as a side dish with meat.

In the latter case, porridge can be cooked not only in water, but also in meat broth. Sweet barley porridge in milk is not immediately boiled, since the milk will evaporate much faster than the cereal will boil down. In addition, this process works best in water, and milk further increases the cooking time.
