Aspirin

  • Trade name : Aspirine UPSA®, Aspegic®, Kardegic®
  • Caution : if your doctor has prescribed low-dose aspirin therapy (less than 300 mg) for the prevention of circulatory problems (accidents cardiovascular), seek medical advice before taking aspirin on your own for pain relief.
  • Haemorrhagic risk: Aspirin increases the risk of bleeding from low doses. This risk hemorrhagic is maintained for up to several days after taking aspirin. If you are taking aspirin, remember to tell your doctor and dentist when even minimal surgery is being considered. Likewise, aspirin should not be used to calm painful periods.
  • Cons-indications: do not take this medicine:

If you suffer from digestive problems (stomach ulcer, pathologies of the duodenum)

If you have severe liver, kidney or heart disease

In case of known allergy to NSAIDs or aspirin

  • Pregnancy : do not use from the beginning of the 6thst month of pregnancy. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take an NSAID on your own before asking your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
  • Consult a doctor:

Before taking aspirin : if you are taking anticoagulant therapy, have a history of asthma or if you suspect you have chickenpox.

During treatment: If blood is released from the mouth, blood is present in the stool, very foul-smelling stools colored black (indicating gastrointestinal bleeding), stop treatment and contact a doctor or emergency medical service immediately.

In the event of skin rashes or difficulty in breathing (risk of allergy), stop your treatment and consult your doctor. Do the same if you experience dizziness, headache and ringing in the ears while taking aspirin (signs of an overdose).

In the event of visual disturbances.

If the pain gets worse or persists for more than 5 days or if the fever lasts for more than 3 days while you are taking an NSAID

  • Drugs interactions : Contraindicated association with anticoagulant drugs AVK (anti-vitamin K) and methotrexate. Combination not recommended with other NSAIDs, heparin, other antiplatelet agents and IUDs (high dose).
  • Dosage: from 500 mg to 1g
  • Interval between 2 doses:4h
  • Maximum dose:3g/ d or 2g/ d in the elderly.
