All about menopause and more

Psychovegetative symptoms include:

– irritability, drowsiness, general weakness, anxiety, decreased concentration.

Very often, anxiety-depressive states are the first symptom of menopause.

One of the most striking manifestations of autonomic disorders are disorders of the central nervous system: dizziness, headache, feeling of lightheadedness, tremor.

On the part of the cardiovascular system, there are signs such as tachycardia, cardiology, lability of blood pressure.

Disturbances in the respiratory sphere can be manifested by a feeling of lack of air, a feeling of “lump” in the throat.

Panic attacks, as the most striking manifestation of the psychovegetative syndrome, occur quite often during menopause.

These include: the development of seizures in which intense fear or discomfort combined with symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, chills, feeling short of breath, choking, nausea, and dizziness develop suddenly and reach their peak within 10 minutes.

Therapy of these disorders should be carried out in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the form and stage of the condition. It is important to adhere to the daily regimen: morning exercises, alternation of mental load with physical exercises, night sleep for at least 8 hours.

The best sports are swimming, walking, yoga. It is also necessary to comply with certain dietary measures: it is worth limiting the use of table salt, eating less fatty meats, flour products, sweets, and, conversely, increasing the intake of potassium and magnesium salts (they are in buckwheat and oatmeal, dried apricots, raisins), the consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids (sunflower, olive oil).

When prescribing drug treatment, the smallest number of individually selected drugs should be used while continuing non-drug therapy and lifestyle adjustments.

Psychopharmacology includes sedatives: preparations of valerian, hawthorn, motherwort. Daytime tranquilizers are preferred.

A special role in the correction of vegetative manifestations is occupied by antidepressants, which, in addition to normalizing the emotional background, compensate for the vegetative symptoms of menopause, for example, hot flashes, especially for those women who are contraindicated in hormone treatment.
