3 tips for choosing good ketchup

Ketchup is one of the most popular sauces. It is easy to prepare and easy to store. And especially with the onset of the picnic season, ketchup just flows like a river! And if you always or from time to time prefer store-bought sauce, it is worth knowing how to choose it.

1 – There should be no artificial additives

The composition of ketchup is quite simple: water, tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, salt, as well as herbal and spice extracts. If you see notes on the label about artificial additives such as thickeners and colors, then do not buy such a sauce.

2 – No starch

Mass fraction of dry substances in ketchup should be around 23%. The composition should not contain starch. Ketchup with starch contains fewer tomatoes and will be loose and thick in consistency. Starch reduces the cost of goods, so manufacturers often do not spare it.

3 – Ketchup without preservatives – possible

There is an opinion that ketchup will not be stored without preservatives, and therefore their use is inevitable. In fact, there are other techniques for making tomato sauces that extend their shelf life without the use of preservatives.
