PSYchology

Sometimes it happens that a new habit never becomes a habit.

It seems that the work is going on, but there is little sense — the changes are too slow. The students at the Distance at the University of Practical Psychology and I came up with a hypothesis why this is happening, and a recipe for how to overcome it. Try it on, give it a try!

To build some skills, it is important to work at the limit of tension.

This is especially important in sports, such as runners, athletes, martial artists.

This is also important in practical psychology when stepping over oneself, through one’s fears and prohibitions.

For example, non-standard actions: if you choose actions that trigger only 80% of your internal tension, then there will be practically no result. The result will be only when you approach the 100% mark. Only if you work on the edge — is the upper bar raised.

At any given moment, there is your current level, and there is a maximum level.

When you increase the load, you increase the current level — this is called a warm-up. This is a warm-up for runners, this is morning exercises, this is a warm-up in non-standard actions before serious work.

When you increase the load further, the current level crosses the 90% bar and begins to slowly “prop up from below” your maximum for today.

Only when the load and the current level exceed the maximum will the maximum begin to increase. If today you give a load of 102% of your maximum, then your maximum will rise by 2% and tomorrow it will be already higher.

When speed characteristics are worked out in karate and kickboxing, the coaches force the group to work at the speed limit. Fighters squeeze out the maximum frequency of blows that they can develop, and then gradually their level grows.

The same with the development of endurance, it increases only when a very high load is placed on it. The same goes for muscle development.

Where it is applicable in practical psychology:

  • Non-standard actions
  • Distance exercise «Choleric»
  • Development of oratorical qualities: energy, creativity
  • Concentration

I’m sure you can think of many other examples.

Conclusion: any qualities that have the concept of “warm-up” or “warm-up” are built according to the current level — load — maximum scheme and develop exclusively in the maximum load mode.
