With the advent of cold weather, many anglers begin to sort out their own arsenal. Soon it will be time to catch the striped robber from under the ice, so lovers of winter outdoor recreation are preparing in advance for the trip to the reservoir. One of the popular baits is considered to be a sheer lure, imitating a wounded fry that has strayed from the flock. The technique of fishing with spinners has its own subtleties and nuances that cannot be neglected.
The main criteria for choosing winter bait
The requirements for artificial ice fishing baits are just as serious as those for open water lures. The fact is that there are many varieties of models on the market, which are often copied in poor quality.
Many anglers under spinners mean only metal products for vertical fishing. Balancers, rattlins, devils and other popular baits for the “striped” are not included in this class.
Among themselves, perch spinners differ in obvious signs:
- color scheme;
- product weight;
- length and shape;
- hook type;
- having a point of attack.
Each model is unique and should be tested separately either in shallow water or in artificial conditions such as an aquarium. This allows you to identify the strengths of the bait, see how it behaves under water, and choose the best game. You should pay attention to how steep the baubles deviate from the hole at the moment of swinging the rod. Some models have a small working area and are great for fishing in snags or vegetation, others are used as search lures designed for fishing in clean areas.

The bait to start fishing should be selected according to the external parameters of the fishing zone:
- depth;
- water transparency;
- the presence of a current;
- potential trophy size.
They start fishing, as a rule, with larger models, gradually adjusting to local conditions, the nature of fishing. A large lure for perch helps to quickly catch the territory, since it can be seen further in clear water. It also provokes an active predator to bite, while a small model “gets” passive representatives of the striped flock.
On a sunny day, models in silver colors or painted in dark, natural tones work. The presence of a colored spot near the hook is mandatory, it serves as an attack point. Models with hanging tees on the chain can also have a colored plumage that takes over this function. If there is nothing that stands out on the spinner, then you can independently equip the tee with multi-colored pieces of cambric.
Technique of fishing
For lure fishing, you will need a winter rod with an inertial reel and a tight spring nod. Many anglers do without a signaling device, but in this case the bite “on the rise”, which takes place, is lost.
It doesn’t matter what kind of lure fishing starts with, the first thing is an active search for fish. As in the case of spinning fishing, the number of holes drilled and fished areas directly affects the result. Many anglers use two rods. On the first is a large search lure, on the second – a small petal. Having received the first bites on a large bait, you should change the tackle and catch the perch with a small bait.
As a rule, a large artificial bait helps to collect fish under the hole, but it is preferable to catch it on a neat centimeter carnation or other product.
Popular wiring methods:
- tapping on the bottom;
- single undermining of the spinner with a pause;
- dribbling in the thickness;
- “swarming” near the bottom;
- slow descent.
When swinging the rod, it is necessary to give the lure time to return to its original position. Interestingly, even the most symmetrical bait for winter fishing deviates in different directions at each stroke, so a sheer lure goes out to explore the water area faster than a mormyshka.
“Swarming” on the bottom and light tapping help to arouse interest in the perch. In the process of animation, a cloud of turbidity rises from the bottom, reminding the predator of the real actions of underwater organisms. That is why bites from the bottom often bring fish with a mouth full of silt. Also, the silt in the mouth speaks of the greed of the bite, which means that the wiring is chosen correctly.
Holes are drilled with a line or envelopes. In the first case, the angler is looking for drops and other bottom anomalies, and, of course, active fish. The envelope is drilled around a lucky hole where at least a few fish were caught. Drilling with envelopes allows you to localize the flock on the site in the shortest possible time.
For plumb fishing, only winter fishing line with a soft structure is used. It must be resistant to abrasion, as it rubs against the sharp edges of the hole, stones and shells. When drilling, in no case should you remove sludge from the holes, so a skimmer for a perch hunter is the main enemy of a good bite. “Illumination” of the hole when fishing at shallow depth promises a departure of the flock from the place of fishing. In order for small baubles on perch to freely overcome the sludge in winter and fall into the fishing zone, a reed is used, with which a hole is made in the center of the sludge, a centimeter in diameter.
With high transparency of the ice, you need to move to deeper areas where the fish does not see the silhouette so clearly.
Classification of sheer baubles
All baits of this type are made of steel. Budget models have a lead solder on one side and a brass or copper leaf on the other. Among anglers, home-made models are especially popular because they have a low cost and high quality of the game. Also, baubles are made from expensive metals, such as tungsten and silver. Almost always, a spinner is a body with a hanging or soldered hook.
Products can be classified according to several criteria:
- body shape;
- degree of deviation during the game;
- vibration and noise effects;
- imitation of a specific organism;
- according to the frequency of oscillations.
The body shape of perch spinners is narrow and wide. Also on some models there are edges, a shift in the center of gravity and other distinctive features. Search products have the most sweeping game, all baits can imitate a wounded fish, a bug or its larva moving in the water column.
High-frequency spinners are good at whetting a predator’s appetite, while products with fewer oscillations per second are able to “collect” sluggish fish. Vibration and noise from the bait are important for attracting perch from afar. The fish catches the movement of the lateral line, so when hunting perch, all means of influencing the bite are good.
All products are also divided into flat and voluminous. The first type, as a rule, has a higher angle of inclination when the rod is swung. Volumetric artificial nozzles work pointwise, without departing from the hole. On a sunny day, it is better to use matte and unpolished products, and on cloudy days – brought to a shine.
