PSYchology

Today’s 30-year-olds refuse offices and prefer to organize their own work schedule. This is a feature of generation Y, people born in 1985-2004. What are the advantages of working from home, says psychologist Goal Auzin Saedi.

Today my day started with blueberry scones that I baked at 7am. They were accompanied by frozen yogurt. This prompted me to write an article. Until I can do all the work at home. For example, not ready to accept patients. But since I have a lot of professional activities besides practice, I often work outside the office.

Opponents of remote work believe that there are many distractions at home: dinner is burning, and a baby is screaming in the next room. But do not forget that technology is a natural habitat for millennials. Skype conferences are more familiar than ordinary meetings. And multitasking is so natural that they are involved in projects around the world, enjoying a latte in a cafe near the house. The pros of working from home outweigh the cons.

1. No need to waste time getting to work

Commuting to work is exhausting, fatigue builds up when you struggle with traffic. Stress can be avoided by not leaving the house during rush hour.

2. There are opportunities to eat healthy food and exercise

At home, you eat when you’re hungry, not because you’re bored or everyone else is eating. I often catch myself thinking that it’s already three o’clock in the afternoon and I haven’t had dinner yet. Even when my refrigerator is empty, I can boil a couple of eggs, make fresh toast and make tea.

If you work from home all day long, you need to take breaks sometimes so you don’t go crazy. You can choose to hit the gym and go for a run when it’s warm and sunny, like XNUMX:XNUMX pm. The energy that you would spend in traffic jams is more useful to spend on a walk or strength training. My clients who work from home practice through YouTube videos.

3. No work fatigue

Many office workers do not exercise in the evenings, citing fatigue. They say that they are physically tired, but this cannot be — they sit still all day. These people confuse intellectual and emotional fatigue with physical fatigue. In fact, the body requires movement.

At home, I move quite a lot. In the meantime, I load up the washing machine, my sink and send emails, I go to the fridge, I cook, I sit down to read. At home, you are free to work at the pace that suits you, in any place and position, so you are less tired. And in the office, do not get up from the table once again, so that colleagues do not think that you work less than they do.

4. Working from home is more convenient

When you need to run somewhere early in the morning, the mood deteriorates. At home, the environment is always more positive and relaxed, provided that there is someone who helps with household chores and children. It’s frustrating when a baby screams during a Skype meeting or you have to quit an urgent job because you have to go to the grocery store and cook dinner. Set boundaries that allow you to work productively and comfortably.

5. Work more productively

When you work in a good mood, find time to exercise and experience less stress, you work better. You are more relaxed, full, which means you have no problems to focus on the task and solve it.

During my sessions with clients, I spend a lot of time on time management and work rotation. Gradually, work from home can be organized in such a way that professional tasks are completed, dinner is cooked, and clothes are ironed. Don’t be afraid to ask your boss to let you work from home a few days a week. The key today is to work smarter, not harder.
