Five surprising properties of this vegetable that you might not know about.

Vegetables are healthy – everyone already knows this by default. True, not all of them. For example, nutritionists don’t like potatoes for their high glycemic index, and some fruits can make you fat. There is also a lot of sugar in carrots, so it is not advised to eat them at night. But doctors do not doubt the benefits of this root vegetable, and here’s why.

Nutritionist, clinical psychologist-nutritionist, member of the National Association for Clinical Nutrition

Sweetish carrots will easily replace high-calorie fruits and will not harm your figure. There are 100 kcal per 41 g, of which:

  • 0,9 g – proteins

  • 0,2 g – fat

  • 6,8 g – carbohydrates

Raw carrots as a snack can help you lose weight. And all thanks to the abundance of fiber, which will give you a feeling of fullness for a long time. Unlike fruits, carrots do not contain as many sugars. For comparison: one apple contains 19 g of sugars, and only 4,7 g in carrots. Besides, carrots are easy to digest.

Benefits for the intestines and the digestive tract

Nutritionists often advise eating carrots if you have problems and chronic gastrointestinal disorders, constipation. This vegetable has a diuretic and laxative effect. In addition, carrots help to normalize metabolism and digestion, restore intestinal microflora and get rid of dysbiosis.

To lower cholesterol and immunity

Any product should be eaten in moderation, be it chocolate or apples. The same goes for carrots. In their study, Scottish scientists confirmed the fact that eating no more than 200 g of raw carrots per day for three weeks will reduce cholesterol levels by 11%.

Carrots contain beta-carotene. By the way, the brighter the color of the carrot, the more of this substance in its composition and the more useful it is. Thanks to beta-carotene, carrots are one of the most powerful antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory effects for our body, even reducing the risk of lung cancer by 40%. And for this, it is enough to consume about 1 carrot per day (1,7-2,7 mg) daily. This fact was confirmed in a recent study by British scientists.

The composition of carrots contains a whole army of nutrients and vitamins, the deficiency of which can affect the appearance:

  • vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, E, K, PP, C, D;

  • essential oils;

  • potassium;

  • magnesium;

  • zinc;

  • calcium;

  • iodine;

  • iron;

  • phosphorus;

  • folic acid.

Carrots in your daily diet will improve the condition of your skin, nails and hair. Due to vitamin A and essential oils, this vegetable helps to get rid of acne and even smooth wrinkles.

For bone strength

Thanks to vitamin K2, carrots reduce the risk of osteoporosis and increase bone density. K2 helps to improve bone metabolism and prevents the leaching of calcium from bones.

Note

To better assimilate all the useful elements of carrots, it is better to eat it with fats: almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cottage cheese 10% fat or fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, salmon), as well as with red or black caviar, avocado, beef … This is because carotenoids are absorbed only when the right fats are present.

Despite all the benefits of carrots, it should be included with extreme caution in the diet for people with stomach ulcers, gastritis, increased gastric acidity, acute pancreatitis, individual intolerance to the product and allergic reactions.
