Types of structures
Garter and growing raspberries on a trellis are carried out in different ways. It all depends on the type of construction you prefer. If you want to fix raspberry bushes on one side, a single-lane trellis will do. It is not difficult to build it, but it is used in small areas.
Each shoot is tied to the wire separately, which will take a lot of time from the gardener. The two-lane design of the trellis for raspberry bushes is remarkable in that it fixes the shoots on both sides. It is also placed for the correct formation of the plant.
Depending on the shape, the following types of trellises for raspberry bushes are distinguished:
- V-shaped. The design consists of two halves that support the shoots of the plant. At the base, they are connected, and from the side, the support resembles the letter “V”. From above, the distance between the wires is 2 m.
- T-shaped. Such a trellis is made of wooden sticks, fittings, metal pipes. Parts of the structure are fixed so that it resembles the letter “T”. This form is advantageous for the successful distribution of branches: shoots that bear fruit are located on the sides, and in the center there is room for young branches.
- Y-shaped. If the details of the V-shaped trellis are simply fastened at the base, in this case there is also a connecting mechanism on the trellis. When it is rotated, the angle of inclination of the structure changes.
- Shatrovaya. It is difficult to make such a trellis with your own hands, since the system here is complicated. At home, it is not made and is not used for small areas. A hip trellis for raspberries is located on large areas where berry picking is mechanized.

If you decide to use wooden bars as a support, treat their ends with resin or a special compound. Keep in mind that the tree quickly rots in the ground, so they fight it in a timely manner. The first stage in the construction of the trellis is the digging in of the supporting pillars. Install them, then pull the wire in two rows. It is important to take care of the presence of the lower tier of the garter if the shrubs are planted this year. Remember that low fragile shoots will suffer from strong winds if there is no support.
Removable trellis
It is important to tie remontant raspberry varieties to the support, as they do not withstand strong winds. The best option in this case is a T-shaped trellis. Please note that it is mounted according to a slightly different principle.
Dig a hole 80-100 cm deep in the center between the bushes. Place pipe trimmings in the substrate – this is necessary so that the soil does not crumble. Fix the support posts, and mount the cross beams on them. The finished structure is placed in the recesses dug in advance and installed.
In autumn, after harvesting, the structure is removed. Take it to the garage or garden tool closet – use the trellis again in the spring. Gardeners who buy remontant varieties will prefer to make a removable support for raspberry bushes.
How to tie raspberries to a finished trellis
The garter of berry bushes is carried out in one of three common ways:
- to a single-lane trellis – shoots are tied separately to each tier;
- to a two-lane support – in this case, the garter is not always important;
- using the Scandinavian method – the stems are wrapped around the twine.
Installing a trellis is not only an opportunity to prevent branch breaks and crop loss. Due to the presence of such a design in the summer cottage, the raspberry bushes are evenly illuminated by the sun, the plantings are not thickened, and the air circulation is excellent. Features of growing on a trellis
A good harvest of fragrant berries is guaranteed by the correct planting of raspberries on the trellis and further care for it.
The preparatory stages of the process include the introduction of organic fertilizer at the rate of about four buckets per 1 m2, as well as preliminary digging and leveling of the earth. The ideal indicator for breakdown into beds for a trellis is an indicator of 0,6 m in width and 0,8-1 m to the aisle. But the higher the bushes, the wider the aisles must be.
Planting of seedlings is carried out in early April. To increase the chances of a good harvest, shoots are selected away from the main bush, since its root system is much more powerful. This favorably affects the development of the seedling.
For other points of cultivation and care, the trellis method differs little from standard methods. The difference lies in the fact that it recommends cutting the shoots tied to the wire at the same level – about one and a half meters in height.
In this case, the fruit twigs, they are also laterals, will grow a little more, which ensures the location of the upper berries at the height of the average height of a person. With this approach, picking berries by hand will not be difficult even on large plantations.
Every year, annual replacement shoots on each bush should be carefully tied to a sleeper with wire, and the shoots should be cut off at an early stage of its appearance. Such simple measures will allow you to get a rich harvest.
