Wet cough in children: how to treat folk remedies. Video

Cough is one of the most common signs of a cold, but if left untreated, it can quickly develop into bronchitis or bacterial pneumonia. It is possible to facilitate sputum discharge and prevent the development of complications not only with medication, but also with folk remedies, for example, with the help of a cabbage leaf.

Cabbage leaf in the treatment of cough in a child

Cabbage leaf can be used to treat cough in both adults and children. It is especially effective for coughing accompanied by sputum discharge. For the child, you can prepare cabbage juice – it relieves inflammation and speeds up recovery. It is better to squeeze it out with a meat grinder or juicer. If you add a teaspoon of honey to a glass of juice, you get an excellent remedy not only for coughing up phlegm, but also for high fever.

Cabbage juice should be taken in 30-50 ml 4-6 times a day after meals

Cabbage juice treatment can be supplemented with compresses. Several small cuts should be made on a clean, fleshy cabbage leaf, then attach it to the child’s chest, cover with plastic and insulate with a shawl or terry towel. You need to keep such a compress for at least an hour. It is best to carry out this procedure in the evening, as it helps to quickly cleanse the bronchi from accumulated mucus. A child who clears his throat after a cabbage compress is likely to sleep well at night.

During the treatment of cough with folk remedies, it is important to periodically show the child to the doctor. If the cough does not go away within a week, worsens towards night and interferes with the child’s sleep, you will have to replace compresses with traditional medicines

How to treat a sputum cough in adults

To treat cough with sputum in adults, you can make the following compress: a large cabbage leaf must be immersed in hot water for a couple of minutes, then greased with castor oil and applied to the back in the area between the shoulder blades. It is better to fix the cabbage leaf with a towel or scarf. The duration of the procedure should be at least one and a half hours, however, if the compress does not greatly hamper movement and does not impede breathing, you can leave it overnight.

Even a strong cough usually goes away after 3-5 treatments

You can also speed up the excretion of sputum with the help of cabbage broth. To prepare it, pour some juicy cabbage leaves with water (half a liter of water will require 2-3 leaves) and simmer for 15 minutes. The finished broth should be filtered and drunk warm, 200 ml 3-4 times a day.

However, it is worth remembering that cabbage broth is not always well absorbed by the body, and therefore it should not be used when:

  • stomach ulcer
  • flatulence
  • liver disorders
  • intestinal infection
