Week 6 of pregnancy – 8 WA

Baby’s 6st week of pregnancy

The fetus is about 20 millimeters and weighs almost 3 grams.

Its development at 6 weeks of pregnancy

The fetus looks like a little Martian, with a big head and small arms! At this stage, the fingers are visible (even if they are still very small) and a joint is put in place: the elbow. The nasal cavities are there, as well as those of the mouth. The eyes are still to the side, and a thin film covers them. The intestines began to form. The vertebrae, which will make up the spine, gradually fall into place. The baby swims in the amniotic fluid, at the ideal temperature of 37,5 ° C.

The 6th week of pregnancy or 8 weeks, on our side

Our pregnancy remains imperceptible to others. However, our uterus has grown slightly and, suddenly, we can already feel a little tight in our clothes, especially at the waist. Certain hormones cause increased urine production. We also feel effects on the bladder which is more compressed. This will last until the second trimester. The uterus will then develop in height, in the abdomen, thus releasing the pressure exerted on the bladder.

Our advice

It is important to be careful what you eat. Without following a particular diktat, we identify certain foods to avoid during pregnancy, because they can be dangerous. Thus, poorly cooked meats and dairy products made from raw milk are likely to transmit a bacterium, listeria. Better to avoid them during these nine months of pregnancy. Likewise, if you are not immune to toxoplasmosis, fruits and vegetables should be washed well, and not eat raw eggs.

Your steps

We find out whether our maternity ward or our midwife organizes an individual “early prenatal interview”, lasting 45 minutes, with a midwife or a doctor. This interview should be offered to you during the first trimester of pregnancy. This interview comes in addition to other prenatal visits. You can come alone or as a couple. It allows future parents to best prepare for the birth of their child. Note that it is 100% reimbursed by Social Security.
