Week 33 of pregnancy – 35 WA

Baby’s 33st week of pregnancy

Our baby measures 33 centimeters from head to coccyx, or nearly 43 centimeters in total. It weighs approximately 2 grams.

His development

The baby’s fingernails reach the tips of his fingers. At the time of his birth, it is likely that these are long enough for him to scratch himself. This also explains why it can be born with already small marks on the face.

The 33st week of pregnancy on our side

As our uterus is really high, and reaches our rib cage, we quickly get short of breath and have trouble eating because our stomachs are compressed. The solution : smaller, more frequent meals. Uterine pressure is also exerted down, in the pelvis, and it is perfectly normal to feel tightness – rather unpleasant – at the level of the pubic symphysis. At the same time, it is already a way for the body to prepare for childbirth, by promoting the separation of the pelvis.

Our advice

If we were working until then, we now have the time to fully invest in your pregnancy. We will be able to attend childbirth preparation classes. These sessions are really useful because they tell us what is happening to us. A birth is an upheaval that is brewing. Now is the time to ask all our questions and meet other mothers-to-be. Suitcase for maternity, breastfeeding, epidural, episiotomy, after-birth, baby-blues … are all subjects addressed by the intervening midwife. We will also practice, of course, respiratory and muscular exercises, to help us in particular to better control our contractions and to facilitate the good progress of the childbirth.
