Week 29 of pregnancy – 31 WA

Baby’s 29st week of pregnancy

Our baby measures 28 centimeters from head to tailbone and weighs approximately 1 grams.

His development

During this 29th week of pregnancy, everything is played out in the lungs. While the air bags are already in place, the surface cells of these bags now produce a substance that makes all the difference: surfactant. It is a lubricant that prevents the alveoli from sticking together when they empty upon exhalation. If Baby were born now, his independent breathing would be greatly facilitated.

Our baby also tastes the amniotic fluid, the flavor of which changes depending on what we eat. So we vary our diet as much as possible! As for the sounds, he hears them better and better.

The 29st week of pregnancy on our side

Our belly is very round and our navel may be so stretched that it becomes prominent. This new weight forces us to arch our back more, and pain is frequent during this third trimester. On average, we must have gained almost 9 kg. Warning: it is at the end of pregnancy that we gain the most weight.

Little tips

To relieve back tension, we think of stretching often!

Our exams

This week is the time to meet the midwife or the doctor who follows us for the fifth prenatal consultation. As usual, he will check certain points: our weight, our blood pressure, the fundal height, the baby’s heartbeat. Next week we’ll have the third trimester ultrasound.
