Waxing the bikini line: how to properly wax the bikini line?

There is no area more delicate to wax than the bikini line. Not only because it is the most intimate part of the body, but also because the skin is particularly thin. The waxing of the bikini line must therefore be done taking into account these criteria in order to avoid hurting yourself or having irritation.

Bikini line waxing: a personal and historical choice

It is probably hard to imagine it from this angle, but waxing the bikini line is far from being a simple aesthetic chore. The way in which women wax or not this private part of their body has long been – and continues to be – debate.

Between letting nature do its work or, on the contrary, imposing limits on it, each era has determined codes from which women sometimes prefer to escape. So much so that today, for bikini waxing, there are several schools.

Full bikini waxing

If there is one way to wax the bikini line that gives rise to debate, it is to choose between following the indentation or completely waxing the jersey.

From a health point of view, full bikini waxing is not recommended by doctors. In that the hairs, particularly in areas sensitive to germs, are a natural protective barrier.

However, serious personal hygiene limits the risks. So that full bikini waxing does not present a problem at present, when it is performed under good conditions.

To practice it at home is nevertheless to be avoided. It is better to go to a serious institute with impeccable hygiene, where you can check the conditions of such depilation beforehand.

How to wax your bikini line?

Prefer wax to the electric epilator

More difficult than on the legs, waxing the bikini line will nevertheless be more effective the first time with wax rather than with an electric epilator. The wax will have a better chance of catching each hair, while preventing it from breaking when extracting it.

However, the manufacturers of epilators have understood the demands of women and now offer very precise products, such as “special intimate areas” which allow efficient and gentler hair removal.

There is also the solution of pulsed light hair removal at home for longer lasting hair removal, but the use of these devices requires a lot of caution.

Wax your bikini line at home

Women no longer need to use a pot of warming wax and a spatula at home, there are now simpler methods. Strips of cold wax, very easy to use and inexpensive, allow waxing of the bikini line without risk of burns.

To do this, first prepare your skin with a gentle scrub, dry and then disinfect.

Then heat in your hands the two bands welded together by the wax, which will then melt at the right temperature.

Apply the strip at an angle in the direction of the hair, first on the upper thighs. Go over it several times to make the wax adhere well. Then, with your other hand, hold the skin underneath to create a little resistance. Then pull sharply vertically, especially avoid removing the wax strip jerkily. Finally, as an esthetician would, lightly press your palm on your skin to soothe it.

The most delicate part to wax is the hollow between the thigh and the pubis. Try to keep your skin straight on this area before applying the wax.

To remove the remains of wax, apply the small wipe usually provided or sweet almond oil, with which it is sufficient to make circular movements.

Depilate the bikini line with a razor, only for retouching

The use of the razor to depilate the bikini line should remain an exception, in retouching or to equalize a regrowth cycle before a next depilation.

By cutting the hair at its base, the razor increases the risk of ingrown hairs and infections. Especially since the skin is very thin at this location, wrinkled and prone to friction.

Also, if you use the razor, take precautions: disinfect it before each use, exfoliate your skin beforehand and disinfect it as well. After shaving, use a calming and healing cream containing an anti-bacterial.

Treat your skin after waxing the bikini line

Waxing the bikini line often generates small pimples but they will not last. To prevent them from turning into nests with ingrown hairs, disinfect your skin and then apply a healing cream or ointment.

Every week, do not hesitate to exfoliate your skin in order to free the hair bulb and once again prevent the formation of ingrown hairs.
