Urinary incontinence – Our doctor’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Jacques Allard, general practitioner, gives you his opinion on theurinary incontinence :

Urinary incontinence is a taboo subject. People who have it do not talk about it, even to their doctor. It is however a very common problem, almost always treatable, which is not the prerogative of the elderly (one can suffer from it at any age) and which is not inevitable with aging either. There is therefore no reason to live with incontinence and accept this fact as part of the normal course of life.

Most of the time, there are multiple causes of incontinence in the same person. If you have any symptoms, I strongly suggest that you see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis. In some cases, the latter may also call on a specialist in urology or gynecology for further analysis or surgery.

In the vast majority of situations, one can cure or at least greatly improve the condition. Finally, the behavioral techniques described in this sheet are often very useful.
