Injury
– violation of the integrity and function of parts of the body as a result of external influences. Falls, heavy lifting, careless movements, etc. can cause injury.
Common signs of all types of injuries
- puffiness (swelling),
- pain of various types (moderate, severe, etc.)
- restriction of movement in the area of damage (or their impossibility),
- redness (hyperemia),
- local temperature increase;
All signs may vary, depending on the cause and strength of the impact, and may increase or decrease.
Main types of injuries
- Injury – one of the most common types of injuries. Soft tissues are damaged (short-term strong compression or crushing of individual cells forming the tissue). Damage to blood vessels occurs, and the area of injury becomes saturated with blood, forming a bruise – hematoma.
- Rupture (tear) of the ligament – The symptoms are similar to a fracture. Often it can only be cured by surgery.
- Dislocation and subluxation – the normal configuration of the joint is disrupted (the head of the bone changes its position relative to the glenoid cavity). Typically, a dislocation accompanies a rupture and/or tear of the ligaments. Subluxations often correct themselves, but this is also a reason to consult a traumatologist.
- Fracture – violation of bone integrity. Can be closed (without damage to the skin) and open (with damage to the skin); with displacement of bone fragments or without displacement; intra-articular; multi-fragmented, complicated: with damage to nerves, blood vessels, ligaments.
